摘要： A system and method facilitating progressively transforming and coding digital pictures is provided. The present invention via employment of a multi-resolution lapped transform provides for progressive rendering as well as mitigation of blocking artifacts and ringing artifacts as compared to many conventional compression systems. The invention includes a color space mapper, a multi-resolution lapped transform, a quantizer, a scanner and an entropy encoder. The multi-resolution lapped transform outputs transform coefficients, for example, first transform coefficients and second transform coefficients. A multi-resolution representation can be obtained utilizing second transform coefficients of the multi-resolution lapped transform. The color space mapper maps an input image to a color space representation of the input image. The color space representation of the input image is then provided to the multi-resolution lapped transform. The quantizer receives the first transform coefficients and/or the second transform coefficients and provides an output of quantized coefficients for use by the scanner and/or the entropy encoder. The scanner scans the quantized coefficients in order to produce a one-dimensional vector for use by the entropy encoder. The entropy encoder encodes the quantized coefficients received from the quantizer and/or the scanner resulting in data compression.

The slicing step divides a swatch of data to be printed and required by each motor movement into a plurality of slices, each having m bits to represent printed pixels and further divided into n segments, where m, n are integers. The compressing step uses an inter-slice compression to represent an (i+1)-th slice of data on a basis of an i-th slice of data for generating a compressed (i+1)-th slice of data and an (i+1)-th control character. The decompressing step uses an inter-slice decompression with respect to the inter-slice compression to restore the (i+1)-th slice of data from the compressed (i+1)-th slice of data for further printing.

The multi-pixel block portion is divided into at least two segments, and a function is performed on each of the segments to generate a second result and a third result. Based on a comparison of the first, second, and third results, determining whether or not to compress the multi-pixel block portion. The function may be a deviation or mean measurement and serve to determine the noise level and image detail level to determine whether to compress or divide the block into sub blocks. Sub blocks may be recursively analyzed for compression or subdivision until all sub blocks are compressed or divided into single pixels.

摘要： In a data compressing section, an image decompressing section decompresses compression RGB data, obtained by lossy compression, to generate decompression RGB data. A second segmentation section generates a decompression segmentation signal. Further, a differential extracting section generates a differential signal that indicates a differential between the segmentation signal and the decompression segmentation signal. A second signal compressing section generates a compression differential signal. Then, this compression differential signal is outputted as storage-use segmentation signal (signal indicating segmentation information), to a data storage section, together with the compression RGB data. The compression differential signal is smaller in size than the segmentation signal. This allows for reduction of a time required for data output and reduction of a required storage space.

Coordinates of pixels in the destination image are determined from the source image according to the rescaling rate. The source image is then scanned.
