    • The invention is directed to narrowing a frame of a liquid crystal display device including a display pixel region and a dummy pixel region adjacent thereto. The display pixel region including a plurality of pixels each having a pixel selection TFT and a pixel electrode connected thereto is formed on a first substrate. The dummy pixel region including a plurality of dummy pixels each having a pixel selection TFT and a pixel electrode connected thereto and shielded from light by a black matrix is formed adjacent to the display pixel region. A driving TFT, that is, a sampling TFT is further formed being superposed on the pixel electrode of the dummy pixel. That is, the pixel electrode of the dummy pixel is superposed on at least a portion of a channel region of the sampling TFT with a planarization insulation film interposed therebetween.

    • Embodiments of the invention enhance a mounting precision of a head gimbal assembly with respect to a carriage. In one embodiment, a rotating disk storage device comprises a magnetic disk; head gimbal assemblies each including a slider provided at a front end thereof and a mounting portion provided at a rear end thereof, the slider including a head for reading data from the magnetic disk; and a carriage holding a voice coil. The carriage is formed with a pivot opening into which a pivot cartridge for turning about a pivot shaft is inserted and mounting surfaces on which the mounting portions of the head gimbal assemblies are mounted, and a first pad, a second pad and a third pad projected so as to come into partial face contact with the head gimbal assemblies on the mounting surfaces.

    • There is provided a multi-finger hand device which can perform smooth bending and stretching operations of finger mechanisms in holding work of an object or the like while reducing the number of actuators as driving sources of the bending and stretching operations of the finger mechanisms. Wires 29a and 29b, and wires 30a and 30b extending from the finger mechanisms 2b to 2e biased to the stretching side by springs 16, or the like are joined to joining element 32 and 33, respectively. A wire 31 provided extensionally from the finger mechanism 2a is wound onto a pulley 36 and drawn from the base side of the hand 3. The joining elements 32 and 33 are rockably held by a holding element 43 via spindles 44 and 45. The holding element 43 is provided movably and rockably around a spindle 42. The pulley 36 is held by the holding element 43 and moves together with the holding element 43. By pulling the wire 31, the bending operations of the finger mechanisms 2a to 2e are performed collectively. During bending and stretching operations of the finger mechanisms 2a to 2e, even if any of the finger mechanisms touches an object or the like and is disabled to move, the bending and stretching operations of the other finger mechanisms can be performed.

    • An upper arm portion and a lower arm portion are connected to each other by a substantially cylindrical elbow joint, and are bendable between an extended position in which they are extended into a substantially straight line and a bent position in which they are bent forwards from the extended position. The position of an axis of the elbow joint is offset forwards from the center of the width of the upper and lower arm portions, and slants inclined toward the elbow joint are formed on rear surfaces of the upper and lower arm portions connected to the elbow joint. Thus, when the lower arm portion is turned toward the bent position, a foreign matter can be prevented from being sandwiched between the upper and lower arm portion at a location in front of the elbow joint by displacing the position of the axis of the elbow joint forwards. In addition, when the lower arm portion is turned rearwards toward the extended position, a foreign matter can be prevent from being sandwiched between the upper and lower arm portion at a location in the rear of the elbow joint by forming the slants.

    • A multifinger hand device has a plurality of finger mechanisms extending from a palm unit. The finger mechanisms include a finger mechanism corresponding to a thumb and other finger mechanisms. Joints of the finger mechanism corresponding to the thumb include a joint closest to the palm unit and having a rotational axis about which the joint is rotatable, the rotational axis extending substantially perpendicularly to the rotational axis of a joint, closest to the palm unit, of one of the other finger mechanisms. The joints, closest to the palm unit, of the other finger mechanisms have respective rotational axes about which the joints are rotatable and which are slightly inclined to each other and extend substantially perpendicularly to a main palm plate of the palm unit. The other finger mechanisms have link mechanisms closest to the palm unit which are fixed to the palm unit with their respective rotational axes being inclined to each other.
