    • A method of easily consecutively manufacturing a layered structure with the same or different kinds of materials superposed in a plurality of layers, is attained by a simple mechanical method. The layered structure manufacturing method is embodied by use of a shaping apparatus having a unique construction. The shaping apparatus includes a plurality of irregular passageways disposed in a side-by-side relationship in the same direction, wherein sectional configurations of the irregular passageways continuously vary from inlets thereof toward outlets, and the irregular passageways are superposed on each other at the outlets. An apparatus body as a principal portion of the shaping apparatus may be constructed by connecting a plurality of elements in series, which are internally formed with the irregular passageways. Materials to be shaped, which exhibit a fluidity or plasticity, are fed into the inlets of the irregular passageways in the shaping apparatus. The shaped materials thereby flow to the outlets while the sectional configurations thereof are consecutively varied and, during this process, get confluent and diverge while flowing inside the irregular passageways.

    • An extrusion die is disclosed including a first member having a surface which includes a plurality of spiral channel segments formed therein and a second member having a surface which includes a plurality of spiral channel segments formed therein. The surfaces of the first and second members are positioned with respect to each other to form a leakage gap therebetween, wherein the spiral channel segments of the first and second members are mated to form a plurality of discrete spiral channels having spiral centerlines which serpentine back and forth across the leakage gap. A spiral channel is formed by a spiral channel segment in the first member aligned with a spiral channel segment in the second member, where the depths of the respective spiral channel segments are substantially 90.degree. out of phase. The respective spiral channel segments have a plurality of interconnected spiral channel segment portions which each gradually increase in depth from their surface to a maximum depth point and thereafter decrease in depth back to such surface.

    • In the production of moldings from thermotropic, liquid-crystalline plastics, the chains of the LC polymer molecules are oriented in at least two preferred directions independent of one another. For this purpose, the polymer melt stream which emerges from an extruder is divided into two part streams which are fed via melt lines to an adapter. A distributing element which is caused to rotate by a drive unit is located in the adapter. The adapter is upstream of a slot die and is connected to the latter. One part stream forms a polymer matrix while the other part stream incorporates in, or is superimposed on, this polymer matrix individual polymer strands at different cross-sectional levels by the rotating distributing element. These polymer strands reinforce the polymer matrix. These polymer strands form multiple-pitch helices. The two part streams combined in the adapter enter the slot die and are shaped in the latter to give a multilayer melt film which is extruded through the slot die onto a cooling roller.

    • The invention relates to the kind of die which has many helical grooves (40) spiralling around a mandrel, and to a new way of feeding the liquid resin from the main supply duct (48) to the grooves.
