摘要： This die for blowing plastic film obtains better mixing of the plastic from different supply lines before extrusion and thus avoids visible ''''weld lines'''' in the finished film. The improved mixing results from the use of generally spiral passages leading from the supply passages to the cylindrical clearance that forms the discharge outlet of the die. The spiral passages are formed by grooves in an annular plate located between the core supply passages and the cylindrical clearance through which the plastic flows to the die outlet. The grooved surface of the place touches a confronting surface near the inner edge of the plate but the confronting surfaces diverge slightly as they extend outward so that plastic can leak radially across space between spiral grooves and into the cylindrical clearance that leads to the die discharge outlet. Adjustments of passage cross sections obtain uniform thickness of the blown film.

摘要： There is disclosed an extrusion assembly for fabricating synthetic plastic sheet material having differentially colored bands which utilizes an extrusion die block having a chamber of streamlined non-circular cross section in which is disposed a pair of sleeve members of non-circular stream-lined cross section. The matrix resin is supplied to the die block chamber on the opposite side of the die chamber from the extrusion orifice and the differentially colored resin is supplied to the sleeve members. Each of the sleeve members has a pair of bores therein, one of which receives the differentially colored resin and communicates with the other which in turn has discharge openings in the surface thereof adjacent the extrusion orifice. The sleeve members are spaced apart so as to provide a channel therebetween and are spaced from the walls of the die chamber so as to provide channels thereabout whereby matrix resin will flow both between and about the sleeve members. Flow diverting bars are disposed within the die chamber to cause the matrix resin to flow towards the discharge openings from the sleeve members and encapsulate the differentially colored resin issuing therefrom. Means is provided in the feed bores to equalize substantially the flow of resin from the feed bores to the other bores in the sleeve members over substantially the entire length thereof. The discharge bores have means therein operating to intermittently discharge resin through the discharge openings. The intermittent discharge means may be independently driven and may be driven in different directions so as to provide a basketweave design, bands of color at right angles to each other and the like. Three extruders may be utilized to provide two color bands with different colors being supplied to each of the sleeve members.

The die is a multiple extrusion die having a main die structure which receives a supply of plastic material of one color and emits the varigated extrusion while a second die enclosed within the main die structure receives a plastic material of a second color along with the material of said one color and extrudes the two materials in the form of a multiplicity of alternate juxtapositioned strips into an extrusion orifice of the main die structure. Compression of the inner die extrudate taking place between die lips of the main structure blends the differently colored plastic materials together with retention of the general configuration of pattern produced by the inner die.
