    • A mute holder for attachment to a music stand supports several mutes in a convenient manner. A mute is a device placed in the end of a trumpet or similar musical instrument to alter the sound. A number of mutes may be needed in the course of play. The mute holder provides an attachment bracket sized to attach to the support shelf on the music book support portion of a music stand. A preferred attachment bracket includes a retaining strip which is carried adjacent to a top portion of the mute holder. A resilient first bend between the top and retaining strip biases the strip against the top, allowing the bracket to clamp against the support shelf of the music book support. A back wall is attached to a rear edge of the top portion at an angle of approximately 90 degrees. A support plate is attached to the lower edge of the back wall, and is generally parallel to the top portion. The support plate defines one or more holes or openings, each such opening sized to support a similarly sized mute.

    • This is a method and an apparatus that provides string bearings (32) and constant inter string pitch correction and pitch trajectory control tremolo device (64 or 80) for a stringed musical instrument (12). The string bearings (32) allow the strings (18) of the instrument to move freely in the axial direction and to be guided with high stiffness in the radial direction. The string bearings contain low axial friction and high radial stiffness bearing inserts (40) whose surface supports the strings to provide the witness points of nuts, bridges, frets, and finger boards. The material of preference for the string bearing inserts (40) is one of the highest energy resiliency and stiffness and the lowest friction. The string bearings and their inserts are adjustable (32, 56, 42, 58) or fixed position. Adjustments are in the horizontal, vertical, and axial (46, 50, 48) directions or any combination thereof. The constant inter string pitch correction and pitch trajectory control tremolo device (64 or 80 in FIG. 5 or 6) provides the simultaneous correction of string pitch to maintain a constant open tuning ratio relationship throughout all tremolo bar input angles and the control of the strings' pitch trajectories to provide a chromatic (FIG. 8), linear (FIG. 9), natural (FIG. 10), or combination pitch trajectory. Non linear string tension devices from the group of substantially non circular pulleys (66), cams (82), and electrically activated solenoids and motors (96) whose axial displacement table (FIGS. 8A, 9A, 10A) has been designed to provide the constant inter string pitch correction and pitch trajectory control multiplicand of the tremolo bar input (76) angle.

    • A fully adjustable acoustic guitar bridge is claimed that allows the strings (e.g. nylon or steel) of an acoustic guitar to be separately and continuously intonated, accurately and easily, whenever necessary. The bridge system employs a minimum of alterations to the traditional non-adjustable acoustic guitar bridge to retain the acoustic qualities of the instrument. In one embodiment, recessed rear-loaded cap screws utilize the forward and downward pull of the strings to stabilize the adjustable saddles; in another, recessed, front-loaded cap screws utilize a c-clip to stabilize the saddles. A threaded saddle capture on each saddle provides stability, continuous threading capability, and the freedom to use acoustically resonant materials (e.g. bone, phenolic, composites, etc.) for saddles. In one embodiment, the string's downward pressure transmits string vibration to the soundboard; in another, a set-screw assists this transference of sound. In one embodiment, a rosewood shim is employed on acoustic/electric guitars over the internal bridge pickup. The vibration of the saddles on the shim is transmitted to the pickup regardless, if the saddles are located directly over the pickup or not. The system has been tested and is compatible with most bridge pickup systems that are currently on the market. The Rules of 3.3%, 2.1% and 1.4%, which position the nut closer to the bridge, compensate for the design flaw in the "Rule of 18", allowing for any guitar, nylon string acoustic, electric, or steel string acoustic respectively, to achieve accurate intonation at all fret positions (assuming an adjustable bridge and proper fret location).

    • A capo is disclosed that allows a musician to selectively engage any of the strings of a stringed musical instrument that has a neck and fingerboard. Multiple string contacting portions that can slide transversely to the neck of the musical instrument are provided. In addition, the pressure bar that applies pressure to the string contacting portions of the capo can slide transversely to the strings so that when fewer than all of the strings are to be engaged by the capo, it may be possible to remove the capo from the area in which the musician would desire to place the fingers in order to create the desired note. This capo is designed to allow the musician to straddle the capo with the fingers of the hand in order to play any note available on the instrument and to provide maximum flexibility in chord selection. The capo is designed to allow the musician to select from all possible combinations of capo and string engagement at each fret; there are 63 possible note combinations at each fret of a six stringed instrument.
