    • In a connector, distal end portions of a pair of elastic tongue pieces are formed with beveling tapered-extension portions such that, when the elastic tongue pieces are displaced substantially perpendicularly to an inserting direction of a rod-like male terminal upon insertion and fitting of the rod-like male terminal between the elastic tongue pieces of a bifoliate female terminal, distal-end outer-side surfaces of the elastic tongue pieces become parallel to an inner wall of a female terminal insertion window with an angle determined by considering an angle of deflection of the elastic tongue pieces. A high-density connector using this contact is also disclosed.

    • A mating terminal structure includes a generally box-shaped female terminal defining a receptacle with a flexible cantilevered contact beam formed from a bottom wall thereof. The beam includes a radiused contact portion. A male terminal is insertable into the receptacle in a given insertion direction (A) and includes a contact cam for deflecting the cantilevered contact beam and engaging the contact portion thereof. The contact cam has a leading ramp surface extending at a relatively small acute angle relative to the insertion direction for engaging the contact portion and gradually deflecting the cantilevered contact beam. The contact cam also has a trailing locking surface extending at a relatively larger acute angle relative to the insertion direction for providing locking interference between the contact portion of the cantilevered beam and the contact cam of the male terminal to thereby removably lock the male terminal to the female terminal.

    • A pin and socket connector assembly includes a stamped and formed pin terminal 2 and a stamped and formed socket terminal 4 received respectively in cavities of a cap housing 6 and a matable plug housing 8. Rigid embossed dimples 54 are located on the interior of the socket section to form fixed contact points for engaging a mating pin terminal.

    • An electrical receptacle connector assembly (4) for application to a printed circuit board consists of an insulating housing (6) and spring contacts (8) received in cavities (9) in the housing. The cavities are T-shaped having a portion that is substantially rectangular, constant cross section from a contact receiving face (12) of the housing (6) up to a position proximate to a mating face (10) of the housing and a contact retention slot (15) along one side thereof. Each spring contact (8) consists of a forward leaf contact spring (32), an intermediate retention portion (33) with retention ears (48), and a rearward contact tail (34) for soldering to a conductor on the circuit board. In each cavity (9) the retention portion (33) and a flat end portion of the leaf spring (32) lie flat against one face (24) of the cavity (9), the leaf spring being bowed towards the opposite face (26) of the cavity, with the retention ears (48) biting into surfaces of slots (15) and the contact tail (34) projecting from the contact receiving face (12) of the housing (6). The housing and the spring contacts are simple and economical to manufacture and the spring contacts are easy to load into the cavities. The contact tails can be configured for various modes of mounting the assembly on the circuit board.

    • An electrical connector having a housing with rows of offset interspaced contact receiving holes. The holes are angled along each row to facilitate interspacing of the holes with holes of adjacent rows. The electrical contacts are fabricated on a carry strip at an offset angle from the carry strip for simultaneous insertion into the angled holes of one of the rows of holes. Once the contacts are inserted into a row of the holes, the carry strip is removed. Angling the holes and interspacing them with holes in adjacent rows allows the spacing between the center paths of adjacent rows to be reduced. The offset angling of the contacts on the carry strips allows for fabrication of the contacts on the carry strip at a conventional pitch, but with nonetheless can be assembled to the housing to form a final contact spacing in the housing that is smaller than the conventional final contact spacing of prior art connectors. This allows for more contacts to be provided in the housing than in a similar size housing in prior art connectors.
