    • An analog TV system includes a transmitter which produces a horizontal unique pulse sequence during each horizontal blanking interval. The pulse sequence is amplitude modulated between two levels to define a horizontal unique word for horizontal synchronization. The frequency of the pulse sequence is selected for use by the receiver section as the color subcarrier phase reference. The average level of the pulse sequence is set at the transmitter and used at the receiver for DC restoration in a clamping circuit. The peak amplitude of the pulses of the pulse sequence define a reference level against which a receiver produced local reference is compared for AGC. As four separate functions are accomplished by a single unique pulse sequence transmitted during the horizontal blanking interval, which four functions are typically accomplished using four separate signals transmitted sequentially during the horizontal blanking interval, a substantial portion of the horizontal blanking interval remains available for other data.

    • A stereo television receiver processes the picture and intercarrier sound carrier signals in a common intermediate frequency (IF) section. The IF characteristic is modified such that the overall transmission characteristic of the receiver exhibits a modified Nyquist slope having a shelf portion of flat attenuation over a frequency band including within it the picture carrier frequency. This reduces the incidental phase modulation of the picture carrier signal due to asymmetrical attenuation of sidebands by the Nyquist slope, thereby reducing the associated intercarrier buzz.

    • A television receiver which is suitable for displaying teletext pages comprises a control system including a microcomputer. The microcomputer is coupled to a volatile memory which comprises a plurality of page number registers. A page number can be temporarily stored in each of these registers. With the aid of a keyboard the user makes known which page numbers he wants to have stored in the different registers and the stored page numbers represent a first series of pages. One single read key (RCL) is provided for the display of such a page. Each time this key is depressed once, a different page belonging to the first series appears on the picture screen. The sequence in which the pages appear is the same as the sequence in which the user has keyed-in the relevant page numbers. This sequence can be interrupted by the occurrence of a preselected operating instruction in response to which a number of teletext pages not associated with said first series can be displayed on the picture screen. Thereafter, the display of the teletext pages of the first series can be continued.

    • An apparatus for displaying in real-time a previously recorded video sequence includes a main memory wherein digitized video gray-scale information is stored for selected non-interlaced fields of video images to be displayed. The memory unit is formed of interconnected substrates. Each substrate is a ROM which includes storage elements and a layer of amorphous silicon alloy which forms an array of diode isolation elements. Column select and read-out circuitry as well as row select circuitry for each of the substrates are formed, on each corresponding substrate, utilizing the same amorphous silicon alloy. Digitized fields of presorted information are read out and stored in pairs in an interpolator circuit which is used to form interlaced fields to be displayed timewise between the digitally stored fields. The digitized fields are converted by a digital-to-analog converter and added to sync signals to form a composite analog video signal adapted to drive a raster scan display unit. Audio information is also stored in the main memory as sampled digital information with two samples per raster scan line. The audio is decoded through audio decoder circuitry and converted to an analog signal in a digital-to-analog converter. The analog and video output may be combined together in a radio frequency modulator to produce a standard transmittable television broadcast signal.
