    • A new approach is proposed that contemplates systems and methods to support the operation of a Virtual Media Room or Virtual Meeting Room (VMR), wherein each VMR can accept from a plurality of participants at different geographic locations a variety of video conferencing feeds from video conference endpoints that can be either proprietary or standards-based and enable a multi-party video conferencing session among the plurality of participants. Each single VMR can be implemented across an infrastructure of globally distributed set of servers/media processing nodes co-located in Points of Presence (POPs) for Internet access. Each VMR also gives its users a rich set of conferencing and collaboration interaction hitherto not experienced by video conferencing users.

    • Embodiments are described for a user interface presenting audio and/or video streams. In some embodiments, a request to increase a size of a first user interface element from a plurality of user interface elements displayed within a user interface on a display is received from a video conference participant's device, at least one numerical representation for dimensions of the user interface display area for each of a plurality of potential layouts for at least a portion of the plurality of user interface elements is calculated to satisfy the request, a video conference system determines a new layout from the one or more potential layouts to accommodate the request by performing at least one comparison between a numerical representation for a potential layout and each remaining numerical representation for a potential layout from the plurality, the new layout comprising at least one of a video quality adjustment of one or more user interface elements, a rearrangement of one or more user interface elements into different sizes and positions, and an elimination of a user interface element from the user interface, and a media server for the video conference apportions bandwidth for one or more video data streams from the composite in accordance with the new layout to be received by the video conference participant's device.

    • Embodiments are described for provision of video conference services. In some embodiments, a service connector module of a video conference system receives a request to switch a participant user of a video conference to a communication mode for the video conference received at a participant endpoint device, the request to switch is (a) a request to switch from an unidirectional communication mode to a bidirectional communication mode, or (b) a request to switch from the bidirectional communication mode to the unidirectional communication mode, determining information on at least one distribution capability from one or more interactions with the participant endpoint device, determines a distribution scheme for the communication mode using the at least one distribution capability, sends a request to establish a connection with the endpoint device using the distribution scheme, receives a notification on establishment of the connection, and sends a request to terminate a prior connection.
