    • Systems and methods for proactive information monitoring are presented. A user can define alert criteria for generating an alert through a centralized alerting service where the alert criteria relate to the status of records in a data set. The records of the data can be distributed across multiple remote or unaffiliated databases to which the user lacks access. The service can disaggregate the criteria into individual criterion targeting specific records stored in the databases. The criterions are provided to agents that monitor the records. When the records satisfy the criterion, the agents send notifications back to the service. Once the service receives sufficient notifications to indicate the alert criteria are satisfied, the service sends an alert to designated recipients. The systems and methods are able provide alert information without compromising the confidentially or security of the remote databases.

    • A computer system utilizes an algorithm that: (a) prepares a table that includes counts of zip code occurrences in a mailing list; (b) prepares a container list that allocates counts to different containers; (c) uses the container list to allocate individual addresses to different mailing containers; and (d) addresses the mailing pieces (directly or by labels) according to the addresses associated with the various containers. Such configurations can advantageously decrease the time required to sort an extremely large mailing into mailing containers according to postal presort levels, among other things by performing the above steps predominantly in the internal memory of the computer system.

    • Apparatus and methods are provided in which software resident on a user's computer interfaces with software and/or supplemental information resident on a provider's computer via a transmission line to manipulate a batch of data from a plurality of records extracted from a user's mailing list. In a preferred embodiment, the user resident software directs the user's computer to extract data from multiple records within the user's mailing list. The user resident software then batches the extracted information, and transmits it across a transmission line to the provider's computer. The provider's computer then performs mailing list related functions on the batch using the provider resident software and information. The provider's computer then either transmits updated, sorted or otherwise modified data back to the user's computer for reintegration into the user's mailing list, print labels, reports or produce other output at the provider's location, or performs some other function with the data.
