    • An ad-hoc, peer-to-peer radio access system for cellular communications systems using time division duplex as a way of maximizing the bits/hz/km2 for cellular systems. The network architecture of the ad-hoc system allows the radio access to be integrated with the fixed components of a conventional cellular system, PSTN or ISP. The objective is to make the system of the invention transparent to the features and services provided by the external network. The advantages of such a system to a cellular operator are that significantly less infrastructure is required, and that the RF spectrum is more efficiently utilized resulting in much lower building and operating costs. The system architecture is comprised of remote terminals, routers, gateways, and at least one gateway controller that interfaces the ad-hoc system to a cellular network system. The ad-hoc system of the invention allows for both voice and data transmissions and receptions.

    • A system and method for providing a traffic control scheme for QoS provision and congestion control across multiple interfaces of wireless nodes (102, 106 and 107), such as wireless access points (107 and 106), communicating in a wireless multihopping communication network (100). The nodes (102, 106 and 107) can include multiple transceivers. The system and method detects bottleneck interfaces in these nodes (102,106, 107) to control the traffic along the path of the corresponding traffic flow. Different measurements and cross-layer feedback are used to differentiate the cause of the congestion, such as wireless link quality degradation due to fading or degradation due to congestion in a shared medium. The nodes (102, 106, 107) inform each other on the status of their congestion level. High and low level signaling and interruption mechanisms are used to control the interfaces of the congested node (102, 106 or 107) to adjust traffic flow and alleviate the congestion.

    • A system and method for achieving crest factor (CF) reduction for multi-carrier modulation in a wireless communication network (100), such as an ad-hoc peer-to-peer multi-hopping mobile wireless communication network (100). The system and method use the properties of the Inverse Fourier Transform (TFT) for achieving crest-factor reduction. Specifically, the system and method map original signal input frequencies to a new set of frequencies by mapping every input frequency to some other input frequency, and then using the IFT to create multiple versions of the transmitted signal and then computing the transform with the lowest CF and selecting that signal for transmission.

    • A system and method for providing a network of wireless devices including Mobile Terminals, Wireless Routers and a Local Control within a high rise building or other three dimensional deployment structure, such that communication, identification and position calculations can be achieved regardless of environment nature. Mobile Terminals are deployed to assume any random positions within a three dimensional deployment structure. Communication and position calculations are provided at each level, or floor of the building, by Horizontal and Vertical Routers, where Vertical Routers are further used to successfully communicate between levels, or floors. The Vertical Routers provide communication links with the Local Controller via one or more Intelligent Access Points. The infrastructure of Vertical and Horizontal routers, the Intelligent Access Points and the Local Control are elements of an infrastructure deployed before a fire incident or other emergency happens. In emergency situations the infrastructure emerges with ad-hoc deployed elements creating a system that assures stable communication, identification and accurate computation of location for all participants to emergency action.

    • A system and method for determining the mobility of a node in a network, such as a wireless ad-hoc network that requires the node to share its information with other mobile and stationary nodes, such as fixed wireless routers and intelligent access points, so that the rate at which the node shares this information and receives location information, such as Geo-location updates, could be based on the rate of mobility of the node. The node includes a transceiver which is adapted to communicate or attempt to communicate with at least one of the stationary other nodes in the network, and a controller which is adapted to determine a mobility factor of the node based on the communication or attempted communication with the at least one stationary other node. The controller is further adapted to control a rate at which the transceiver sends information pertaining to the node to at least one of the other nodes in the network based on the mobility factor. The mobility factor represents a rate of mobility of the node, and the rate at which the controller controls the transceiver to send the information is proportional to the rate of mobility.
