摘要： A method of creating a chording keyboard mapping table is described. An exercise is created that is performed by users of a keyboard for which a mapping table is desired. The psychomotor performance of the users' transitions between chords is recorded—as distinct from performance relating to chords. A first trial keyboard mapping table (from chords to symbols) is created, and the effectiveness of that table is measured by applying it to a text corpus and measuring the total psychomotor cost to enter that corpus with that table. The table is then permuted, and the cost recomputed. Trial tables are repeatedly permuted, with one or more preferred tables being used as the basis for the next iteration of permutations. This continues until a terminating event, such as minimal improvement, is reached. Variations as embodiments are described. Software to implement the method is claimed.

摘要： A device and method of providing a versatile illuminated panel for walls, product displays, and other surfaces is described. Panels are constructed from a variable number of rectangular illuminated tiles, where the tiles mate edge-to-edge so as to create a nearly seamless visual panel effect. Illumination within each tile is uniform to also create a nearly seamless visual panel effect. End-users may create panels of varying sizes and shapes by using different quantities of a standard tile. The software within the invention automatically determines the number and arrangement of tiles within each assembled panel. Each tile comprises a plurality of illuminators, an optical means to distribute light from the illuminators uniformly across the tile, and at least one communication interface. In one embodiment the tiles are linked into a communications tree-structure; and the location of each tile within the tree constitutes its logical address.

摘要： A method of measuring efficacy of test treatment of an autoimmune disease in an animal in a vivarium is described. Animal activity data is collected at multiple times during the night. Sequential time regions of the night are identified as high-activity, activity-drop, or low-activity regions. Embodiments are described to quantify a drop, during the night, of an animal's activity level. These quantified activity-drop scalars for consecutive nights are accumulated in an animal health dataset. This dataset is compared to healthy animals, a standard of care or a reference treatment for the first disease to determine efficacy of the test treatment. One embodiment quantifies an activity-drop by fitting straight-line curves through the data in the three nightly regions. Other embodiment uses a Fourier transform on a circle, LASSO, RANSAC or regression analyses for curve fitting. Another embodiment compares areas under data curves in the regions. Animals may be housed in cages with other animals.

Ultrasonic vocalizations of mice in a vivarium are compared to a predetermined set of positive phenotypes and to a predetermined set of negative phenotypes. The output of those comparisons are then compared to determine a metric of distance to classify vocalizations as closer to or more distant from elements of the positive or negative sets.

摘要： An X-Y movable stage with rotation is described. A fixed base comprises a magnetic bed with a checkerboard pattern of alternating north and south poles on a grid. A movable puck moves and rotates on the base. The puck comprises three or more nodes where each node may be energized for a north, south, or off magnetic field, with varying field strength. The nodes are arranged on an X-Y motion grid on the puck that are rotated 45° from the magnetic base grid. A first set of node locations on the puck may be each centered between a pair of opposite poles on the magnetic base. One arrangement of nodes is at the corners of a rectangle aligned with the motion grid. 摘要： A method of generating symbols from a chording keyboard is described. A unique feature of this method is accepting a sequence of chords from the keyboard without either an intervening chord or a requirement that all keys be released between chords. Another unique feature is that that the chord map is independent of chords before or after a particular chord, for a particular symbol. That is, a user need only memorize one chord for each symbol, and then may transition directly from exactly that chord to any other chord. There are no special transition requirements. The number of keys on a keyboard for this method may be 4 to 10, inclusive. Such a keyboard may be operated with one hand. Specific attributes of embodiments or chord tables are described.
