摘要： An alternating current power electronic converter includes an alternating current chopper circuit including two pairs of switches, each switch of a pair connected in series and the two pairs of switches connected in parallel. Each switch of a pair is a uni-directional switch. The uni-directional switches of each pair are arranged in opposing directions, and the uni-directional switches of one pair of switches are arranged in an opposing configuration to the uni-directional switches of the other pair of switches. The circuit comprises a bridge connection between switches of each pair of switches. A controller is configured to control a sequence of operation of the switches, providing an overlap period whenever one of the switches of a pair changes from open to closed and the other switch of the pair changes from closed to open. During the overlap period the switch that is moving from closed to open remains closed.

摘要： A nanocomposite coating composition for use in the mitigation of whisker growth from a metallic surface (82) includes a polymer matrix (86) comprising a base polymer and insulating material nanoplatelets (85), for example clay nanoplatelets, within the polymer matrix (86). A conformal coating (84) for application to a metal surface (82) is formed from the coating composition. The conformal coating mitigates the spontaneous growth of whiskers (83), in particular tin whiskers, from the coated surface (82), reducing the risk of short-circuits caused by such whiskers bridging gaps within electronic devices. Methods are provided for the preparation of coating compositions and coatings.

摘要： A needle guide system for use with an ultrasound probe, the system comprising a surface marking guide and a needle guide. The surface marking guide includes an attachment portion for attaching the marking guide to an ultrasound probe, and a surface contact portion fixed to the attachment portion and including one or more features for identifying to a user where to mark a surface when the ultrasound probe is held against the surface. The needle guide includes a base to support the needle guide on the surface, one or more features on the base for alignment with marks made on the surface, and a needle support mounted on the base and having a needle channel through which a needle can extend, the needle channel having a known position and orientation relative to the base. We also describe a needle guide for use with an ultrasound probe to guide a needle along a predetermined path relative to the ultrasound probe.

摘要： An internal combustion engine including an exhaust arrangement comprises a first exhaust duct and a second exhaust duct. A valve arrangement preferably comprising separate first and second exhaust valves associated with each cylinder, to selectively direct exhaust from engine to the first exhaust duct during a first exhaust period, and to the second exhaust duct during a subsequent second exhaust period. A turbine having an inlet is connected to the first exhaust duct; and a compressor drivingly connected to and driven by the turbine, has an inlet connected to second duct. The compressor, driven by the turbine extracting energy from the exhaust, reduces the back pressure in the exhaust system reducing pumping losses, with the second duct bypassing the turbine in the second exhaust period such that the turbine also does not increase the exhaust back pressure at least during the main second exhaust phase.

The powder is formed from a suspension, and freon is added directly to the suspension as an additive. The suspension is then granulated by spray freeze drying, and the freon subsequently removed by heat treatment. The voids left by the vacated freon provide meso, micro and macro flaws or structural defects in the granules.
