摘要： A test apparatus or system for testing impact induced brain trauma a method of making and a method using the same are provided. The system includes a head model, which includes a skull component, a brain component, and a fluid component. The skull component has a wall defining an interior chamber. The brain component includes a gel material and is disposed within the interior chamber. The fluid component is disposed inside the interior chamber. The system may also include a fluid tank fluidly coupled with the skull component and configured to provide the fluid component into the interior chamber. The head model may further include a layer of porous media disposed between the brain component and the interior wall surface of the skull component. The system may include at least one impact element for providing an impact on the head model. The impact is translational or rotational or both.

The method includes using a pupilometer to take paired pupillary measurements of a left and right eye of the patient; using the pupilometer to determine NPI of the left eye and display it on a display of the pupillometer; using the pupillometer to determine NPI of the right eye and display it on the display of the pupillometer; calculating a differential between NPI of the left eye and NPI of the right eye and display said NPI differential on the display of the pupillometer; and predicting an unfavorable health or neurological outcome if the NPIs of the left and right eyes indicate normal pupillary responses for each eye but the NPI differential meets or exceeds a given threshold value.

A balance sensor is connected to the controller, the controller configured to receive a balance test feedback signal from the balance sensor indicative of subject movement during a balance test. A physiological sensor is connected to the controller, the controller configured to receive a physiological activity feedback signal from the physiological sensor indicative of subject physiological activity. The controller is configured to generate an impairment indication based on the eye test feedback signal, the cognitive test feedback signal, the balance test feedback signal, and the physiological activity feedback signal. A method for screening impairment of a subject is also disclosed.
