    • A tool head is provided that can easily correct the shape of a tooth surface. Slot holes are formed in a main head body, that tilt either distally or proximately to the central axis of rotation (CAR) of the main head body. Concave tooth surface blades for cutting concave tooth surfaces are installed in the slot holes that tilt distally, and convex tooth surface blades for cutting convex tooth surfaces are formed in the slot holes that tilt proximately. By changing the amount that the concave or convex tooth surface blades protrude, the cutting portions of the concave or convex tooth surface blades are moved in either distal or proximate directions. By changing the distance from the CAR to the cutting portions in this manner, it is possible to correct the shape of the concave or convex tooth surfaces of a bevel gear.

    • A blade sharpener having a sharpening mechanism that functions to sharpen a blade engaging the mechanism and being moved longitudinally relative to that mechanism. The sharpening mechanism is located within a hollow housing or scabbard for containing the blade, and means is provided to restrain the blade against inadvertent removal from the housing. The blade is moved into and out of the housing through a front end of the housing, and the restraining means becomes operative (automatically) when the blade is fully inserted. Locking means then functions to prevent release of the restraining means, and that locking means includes a plate movable in the longitudinal direction of the housing between locking and unlocking positions. The locking means is moved into the unlocking position by actuation of a press button located at the rear end of the housing, and automatically returns to the locking position when pressure is removed from the press button.

    • A cutter head including a cutter body portion having a first outer surface and a second outer surface located inward of the first outer surface. Both first and second outer surfaces are interrupted by a plurality of blade receiving slots which extend inward into the cutter body portion. The first and second outer surfaces are arranged such that an annular projection is formed protruding from the second outer surface and extending to the first outer surface. The annular projection is also interrupted by the plurality of cutting blade slots thus forming a plurality of individual projections. The cutter head additionally includes a clamping ring extending about the cutter body and secured to the annular projection. The clamping ring comprises first and second ring members which together define an inner receiving channel having a form complementary with the form of the annular projection whereby securing the first and second ring members together about the annular projection positions the annular projection in the receiving channel and secures the clamping ring to the cutter body. The cutter head may include a generally concave shaped clamping block which is attached to the receiving channel in the clamping ring. The cutter head may further comprise blade receiving slots wherein the inner end portion of the slots includes a pair of angled blade mounting surfaces. Also included are cutting blades having side portions of a form which is complementary to the angled blade mounting surfaces of the cutter head.

The method comprises forming first and second relief surfaces on the cutting profile surface. The first relief surface extends from a location inward of the cutting edge to the back face and is oriented at a first relief angle with respect to a side surface. The second relief surface extends from the cutting edge to the first relief surface and is oriented at a second relief angle with respect to the side surface with the second relief angle being smaller than the first relief angle.
