    • A suspension arrangement for the wheels of vehicles comprising links (1 & 2), of equal pivotal length rotatably attached to the chassis or body at one end, at upper and lower chassis attachment points (3 & 4), and an axle support link (7), locating a wheel axle (8), at one end and attached at its other ends (5 & 6) to the opposite ends of the links (1 & 2). The spacing between attachments (3 & 4) is double that between (5 & 6) and the centre distance between the axle and its link attachment points is the same as the pivotal length of links (1 & 2). The geometry of said arrangement constrains the movement of the axle/wheel rectilinearly between the chassis attachment points and the angular displacement of the axle support link focuses to an axis (10), exhibiting slight rectilinear displacement.

    • The invention relates to a suspension system for a vehicle road wheel and to vehicles equipped with the suspension system. In particular, the invention provides a road wheel suspension system comprising two arms mounted for oscillatory motion on respective fulcra on a support structure formed by the vehicle chassis or some part of the vehicle body, the two arms being pivoted at their other ends to spaced positions on a wheel-carrying element so that there is provided an articulated quadrilateral, and according to the invention, the wheel-carrying element has an extension beyond the part of that element which extends between the spaced pivots of the two arms, there being the road wheel mounting on this extension of the wheel-carrying element.According to preferred features of the invention, the two arms may be disposed on the same side of the wheel-carrying element or on opposite sides of the wheel-carrying element, and the extension on which the wheel is mounted extends in a direction approximately parallel with the ground, when the vehicle is unloaded.Specific embodiments of the invention include a motor-cycle, a motor vehicle having the suspension system applied to both front and rear road wheels, and the undercarriage of an aircraft.

    • A vehicle includes a suspended assembly that supports a main body and a suspension system for connecting the suspended assembly to the main vehicle body. The suspended assembly assists in providing directional control of the vehicle and stability in a lateral direction relative to a normal straight-ahead direction of travel of the vehicle. The suspension system including first and second suspension arrangements that control movement of the suspended assembly relative to the main vehicle body through a range of motion along first and second paths that are primarily perpendicular to the lateral direction. The second path differs from the first path such that the combination of the range of motion of the first suspension arrangement along the first path and the second path result in an overall range of motion for the suspended assembly relative to the main body that is defined by a surface area.

    • A stability maintaining and shock absorbing bicycle front fork assembly comprises a steering spindle for pivotal mounting on a bicycle front frame. A single arm fork member having top and bottom ends is rigidly attached adjacent its top end to tope and bottom crown members rigidly attached to the steering spindle. A swing arm assembly is mounted on the single arm fork member to define a swing arm pivot axis oriented generally parallel to the displaceable axis of rotation, for pivotal movement of the swing arm assembly between a forward position, at which the swing arm assembly extends downwardly and rearwardly from the swing arm pivot axis and wherein the displaceable axis of rotation is disposed forwardly of the steering axis and rearwardly of the swing arm pivot axis, and a trailing position at which the displaceable axis of rotation is disposed closer to the steering axis than when in the forward position. A hub defining the displaceable axis of rotation is disposed on the swing arm assembly so as to permit mounting of a front bicycle wheel thereon.
