    • A hydrogenated copolymer obtained by hydrogenating an unhydrogenated copolymer comprising conjugated diene monomer units and vinyl aromatic monomer units, the hydrogenated copolymer containing at least one hydrogenated copolymer block (B) which is obtained by hydrogenating an unhydrogenated random copolymer block comprised of conjugated diene monomer units and vinyl aromatic monomer units, wherein the hydrogenated copolymer has the following characteristics: the hydrogenated copolymer has a content of the vinyl aromatic monomer units of from more than 40% by weight to less than 95% by weight; at least one peak of loss tangent (tan δ) is observed at −10 to 80° C. in a dynamic viscoelastic spectrum obtained with respect to the hydrogenated copolymer; and substantially no crystallization peak ascribed to the copolymer block (B) is observed at −20 to 80° C. in a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) chart obtained with respect to the hydrogenated copolymer.

    • The present invention relates to a catalyst for preparing vinyl aromatic polymer and styrene polymerization using the same, and particularly to a transition metal half metallocene catalyst with a novel structure for preparing syndiotactic styrene polymer having high activity, superior stereoregularity, high melting point and various molecular weight distributions and a process for preparing styrene polymer using the same. The present invention provides a multinuclear half metallocene compound in which two or more of transition metals of groups 3 to 10 on periodic table are connected through bridge ligand simultaneously containing π-ligand cycloalkandienyl group and σ-ligand functional group and its preparation, and a process for preparing styrene polymer using the compound as a catalyst. Polymers with various molecular weight distributions as well as vinyl aromatic polymer having predominant syndiotactic structure can be prepared with high activity using the multinuclear half metallocene catalyst.

    • Supported stereospecific catalysts and processes for the stereotactic propagation of a polymer chain derived from ethylenically unsaturated monomers which contain three or more carbon atoms or which are substituted vinyl compounds, such as styrene and vinyl chloride. One application is the stereospecific propagation of C3-C4 alpha olefins, particularly the polymerization of propylene to produce syndiotactic polypropylene over a supported metallocene catalyst comprising a stereospecific metallocene catalyst component incorporating a metallocene ligand structure having two sterically dissimilar cyclopentadienyl ring structures coordinated with the central transition metal atom. Both of the cyclopentadienyl groups are in a relationship with one another by virtue of bridge or substituent groups, which provide a stereorigid relationship relative to the coordinating transition metal atom to prevent rotation of said ring structures. The metallocene catalyst component and a co-catalyst component, an alumoxane or an alkyl aluminum, are supported on a particulate silica support comprising spheroidal silica particles having an average diameter within the range of 5-40 microns and an average effective pore size within the range of 50-350 angstroms. The particulate silica support contains at least 50 wt. % of the supported catalyst component within the pore volume of the silica support.

    • The present invention is an improvement in a free radical bulk polymerization process for preparing a high molecular weight polymer from a vinyl aromatic monomer characterized in that the polymerization is conducted in the presence of an acid catalyst having a pKa at 25.degree. C. of less than 2, or salt thereof, wherein the improvement comprises dispersing the acid catalyst, or salt thereof, in a (meth)acrylic acid or ester thereof, prior to contact with the vinyl aromatic monomer. The (meth)acrylic acid or ester allows the acid catalyst to be dispersed within the vinyl aromatic monomer without causing cationic polymerization. The acid catalyst, or salt thereof, catalyzes the free radical polymerization reaction such that high molecular weight polymers are produced in reasonable reaction times.
