    • An air intake device of an engine includes a throttle body provided in an intake passage of an engine, a bypass passage arranged to connect an upstream side and a downstream side of a throttle valve disposed in the throttle body, an idle number-of-revolutions control device that is disposed in the bypass passage and that controls the quantity of air passing through the bypass passage and flowing into the downstream side of the throttle valve according to the state of the engine, and a water collection portion that is disposed on the upstream side of the idle number-of-revolutions control device in the bypass passage and that is constructed so as to include a space portion connecting with the bypass passage. This structure enables smooth operation of the idle number-of-revolutions control device and prevents damage thereto caused by water in a bypass passage.

    • Bypass tubes connected to intake ports of each throttle body are connected to joint pipes of a starting control valve assembly. The starting control valve assembly includes valve bodies having communication paths formed therein. The communication paths communicate with an air cleaner. First and second flow paths connect the communication paths and the joint pipes. Tuning screws are provided for adjusting the opening amount of each of the first flow paths and a shaft valve is rotatably mounted in through holes which are orthogonal to the second flow paths for collectively adjusting the opening amount of the second flow paths. Furthermore, a plurality of idle connection holes are provided in the shaft valve which all face in the same direction.

    • An idle speed control for an internal combustion engine has a crankcase adapted to be connected to a fuel metering device used to selectively deliver fuel to the engine in response to pressurized air pulses generated in the engine. The idle speed control includes a vessel having a pressure actuated member movably mounted therein to define a first chamber and a second chamber. The second chamber is provided with a biasing device acting on one side of the pressure actuated member and the first chamber admits the pressurized air pulses acting on an opposite side of the pressure actuated member and controllably leaking a portion of the pulses therefrom. The idle speed is controlled by a leak-down rate of pressurized air pulses released from the second chamber.

A control device (31) includes different functions for regulation of idle speed and charge pressure. The function selected for regulation by the control device depends on an engine parameter, such as throttle position, detected by a throttle position sensor (16).
