    • A device for controllably removing a stopper from a bottle, such as a champagne bottle, so as to prevent the uncontrolled discharge of the stopper from the bottle opening. The device has a brace means selectively securable to a portion of the bottle beneath the stopper, chuck means or alternatively a socket for engaging the stopper, and actuator means operatively connected to the brace means and chuck means or socket for raising the chuck means or socket relative to the brace and thereby removing the stopper from the bottle. The chuck means and stopper securely engage the stopper and thereby prevent its uncontrolled discharge from the bottle opening.

    • A champagne bottle opener designed to dislodge an overhanging top of closure of the type commonly used to close champagne or sparkling wine bottles. The device includes a handle and a bifurcated working area having a prying surface designed to engage the overhanging edge of the closure and deflect it sideward to begin its removal. In one embodiment the bifurcated working area includes a pair of arms which are spaced a distance greater than the bottle neck diameter and less than the diameter of the wire retaining ring around the neck of a champagne bottle. In another embodiment a single angular arm forms with the handle a recess for receiving the bottle neck. In still another embodiment the arms are bent to conform with the upper surface of the ring of the bottle. In normal use, the sideward movement of the cork is sufficient to cause its dislodgement from its sealed position and it may be easily removed manually or it may pop off in a controlled and predictable manner.

    • A prying device, most useful as a plastic cork lifter, comprises an elongated member (10) having a handle section (12) at one end and a prying section (14) at the other end. The prying section comprises a fork with separated dual tines (16/18) having narrowed inner edges which fit into the groove between the cork (20) and bottle (22), below the head of the cork above the neckband of the bottle. A wire hoop (24) extends out from the prying section. The wire hoop is looped around the top of the bottle, just below the cork. The hoop is springably retracted toward the prying section for storage and for aiding in positioning the dual tines in the groove between the bottle and the cork. The hoop is vertically pivotable at the prying section and is bent by about 90 degrees to form an upright "V" (34) at approximately midway out from the prying section. The bend forms a fulcrum point which rests against the side of the bottle at a location slightly down from the cork so that the handle can be rotated down about the fulcrum point, causing the fork to rotate up and lift the cork by multiplied lever force.

    • An automatic decapping device for test tubes is capable of decapping 20 or more test tubes pre-loaded onto a round carousel. A small motor drives three offset cams. The first offset cam pushes a decap/eject arm over the cap of a tube. The cam and associated drive arms and brackets move a needle down and into the cap. The decap arm and needle are then raised and pull the cap upward and back, removing the cap. An ejection lever then removes the cap from the needle and the cap is fed down a disposal chute. A second offset cam simultaneously moves a support arm onto the lower part of the vertical tube to support the tube as the decapping occurs. As the decap/eject and support arms return to their home positions a third offset cam drives the carousel to position the next tube in front of the decap/eject and support arms and the cycle begins again. A one-way spring ratchet positioning mechanism allows for the incremental positioning of each tube in proper position for each decapping cycle. An internal switch turns the device off when all tubes have been decapped.
