    • The subject invention relates to an improved microwave cavity reso­nator 35 and internal magnetic shield of small design for use with an atomic frequency standard. In an embodiment for an optical-­physics package 10 the invention comprises a light source 11, a cell 25 having a predetermined volume in which atoms are contained capable of undergoing a hyperfine transition within a microwave region of the spectrum and disposed to receive the light from said source 11, a microwave cavity resonator 35 composed of a ferro-­magnetic or magnetically equivalent material and having a cavity substantially commensurate in volume with the predetermined cell volume, means 16 for detecting the light transmitted through said cell 25 and producing a detection signal representing the trans­mission of light therethrough, means 31 for subjecting the cell 25 within said cavity to electromagnetic waves inducing the hyperfine transition of the atoms to increase the absorption of the light, means 19 for applying a magnetic field to the cell 25 to provide a substantial bias field to said cavity, said means 19 for applying said magnetic field being generated within the cavity, and control means 21, 26, 27 responsive to the detection signal for modifying the frequency of said electromagnetic waves so as to steer and maintain their frequency substantially centered on the frequency of the hyperfine transition of said atoms.

    • A drawn and ironed container body (30) is provided having a plurality of alternating inward and outward segments (46,48) around the circumference of the stripper bulge (44) and extending through at least a portion of the longitudinal extent of the bulge (44) whereby the minimum column strength of a sampling of such containers is substantially increased. An apparatus for reforming a drawn and ironed container body is also provided, comprising inner and outer members (60,62) positionable in opposing relation with each other, with at least a portion of the bulge (44) positioned therebetween, the inner and outer members (60,62) being capable of radial movement relative to each other to form alternating inward and outward segments (46,48) around the circumference of the bulge (44) and extending through at least a portion of the longitudinal extent thereof. In one embodiment, the inner member is a mandrel (60) for supporting container body and secured to a circular turret (64) and the outer member comprises an arcuate member (62) having a rigid plate (68) and a resilient layer (70) for contacting a portion of a container body on the mandrel (60). As the container simultaneously rotates about its longitudinal axis and revolves around the center axis (82) of the turret (64), compressive force against the resilient layer (70) forces metal to conform to inward and outward segments (66) in the mandrel (60).

    • A glassware molding machine having a parison molding portion (326) and a container body molding portion includes a spray apparatus (84) with a spray head that is operatively attached to a spray spindle. Vaporized lubricant is sprayed radially outward from the spray head while the spray head is rotated and moved upwardly through the molding cavity. The automatic cycle of the glassware molding machine is interrupted while the mold halves are closed so that the lubricant is not deposited onto mating surfaces of the mold halves; a barrier of air is provided to prevent lubricant from being deposited onto the parison plunger; a collection system is provided to capture exhaust materials from the application of lubricant to the hot mold surface; and provision is made for depositing a heavier layer of lubricant, or a different lubricant, on a selected surface of the molding cavity.
