    • Paraffin hydrocarbons are separated from their chlorinated derivatives by liquid-liquid solvent extraction using a polar and non-polar solvent. Suitable polar solvents are acetonitrile, ethylene glycol monomethyl (or ethyl) ether, diethylene glycol monomethyl (or ethyl) ether, dimethylformamide, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol, acetonyl acetone, acetone, N-methylpyrrolidone, benzyl alcohol, phenylethyl alcohol, methyl and ethyl ethers of propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol, acetyl acetone, propionitrile, ethyl mono- or di-ethanolamine, morpholine, diethyl-formamide, monoethyl formamide, monophenyl formamide, acetic, propionic or chloracetic acid, phenol, sulphur dioxide, epichlorhydrin and dimethyl sulphone. The non-polar solvent is a C3-C8 paraffin. In one embodiment the mixture is contacted with the two solvents introduced into the opposite ends of a contacting apparatus, the mixture being introduced in the middle; the chlorinated compounds are recovered from the polar solvent extract. In another embodiment the mixture is contacted with the polar solvent in one stage and the extract is then contacted with the non-polar solvent in a second stage, the raffinate from which is recycled with feed to the first stage, if desired after evaporating some of the non-polar solvent.ALSO:Paraffin hydrocarbons are separated from their chlorinated derivatives by liquid-liquid solvent extraction using a polar and non-polar solvent.     • Products obtained by reacting polymers or copolymers of conjugated dienes with sulphur dioxide are stabilized with cyanates or thiocyanates, alkali metal or ammonium cyanates or thiocyanates being preferred. Other stabilizers such as hexamethylene tetramine may be incorporated. The conjugated diene may be butadiene, methyl butadiene, dimethyl butadiene or chloroprene, which substances may be copolymerized with each other or with isobutylene, styrene, vinyl chloride, vinyl esters, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile. The reaction products to be stabilized may also comprise products obtained by the reaction of the polymers or copolymers and unsaturated compounds of low molecular weight with sulphur dioxide, suitable low molecular weight compounds being butadiene, 1,5-hexadiene, allyl alcohol, chloride, acetate, capronate, isothiocyanate, and oleate, diallyl phthalate and diallyl adipate.
