The invention relates to a decoding device for converting signals, which comprises a device for converting the signal into a bit string including a first or a second logic value, the bit string including an m-bit information word corresponding to a information singal portion. The device further comprises a converting device for converting a converted code word sequence into an information word sequence, wherein each information word is designated to a code word to be converted and determines these code words, which is characterized in that the converting device is set for converting the code word which depends on the logic value of the bits in the bit string, wherein the bit in the bit string is positioned at the determined position of adjacent code word, for differentiating the corresponding information word in a plurality of information words represented by the code word belonging to the group of the second type. The invention also relates to a reading device for reading a record medium, wherein the information on the record medium is recorded in an information pattern mode. The reading device comprises a converting means for converting the information pattern into a corresponding binary reading signal, which includes a decoding device as described in the claim 1 for converting the binary read-out signal recorded on the recording medium into an m-bit information word sequence.
