The present invention is related to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), a node B and a method for implementing in the wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and the node B. The wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprises at least one processor that receives a high speed physical downlink shared channel, and in response to the high speed physical downlink shared channel, transmits at least one random access channel preamble followed by ACK/NACK and channel quality indicator (CQI) information. The at least one random access channel preamble is selected from a set of random access preambles reserved for the ACK/NACK and CQI information.
