The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a sweet potato dog chew for a pet. The method comprises the following steps: (1) firstly, peeling and washing the sweet potato in a peel washing machine for 10-15 min, and chipping off the unwashed peel, the mud and the sand through a manual mode; (2) chipping to the thickness of 3-5 cm in a chipping machine; (3) putting the chipped sweet potato in a water-stop steamer to boil for 45-60 min till the center of the sweet potato is completely cured; (4) adding the animal favorite nutrient substance and some sugar in the steamed sweet potato paste, or adding a corresponding edible pigment and an additive into the sweet potato paste to be formed into different shapes, and uniformly mixing in a stirrer and stirring for 30 min; (5) pouring the uniformly mixed raw materials from the stirrer into a vertical extruder to product products of different shapes; and (6) baking the shaped product till the water is less than 14%. The method has the beneficial effects of simplicity in shaping, reasonable structure, low cost and convenience in batched production.
