A battery tray has a base for receiving a base of a battery housing, opposed side walls, an end wall that connects the side walls and a clamp that is connectable to the base. The end wall and a first side wall have grooves running parallel to the base for receiving projections of the battery housing. The clamp connects to the base on the side of the battery tray that faces away from the end wall. The clamp has a block-forming element for positioning the battery housing on the side facing the second side wall, and the second side wall has a block-forming element in the region of the end wall, for positioning the battery tray on the side facing the second side wall.
