The invention relates to a high-strength, high elastic modulus, excellent ductility carbon nanotube fiber material and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps: step 1: preparing a carbon nanotube film; step 2: performing ion or group bombardment treatment on the carbon nanotube array film so that adjacent carbon nanotubes are connected by covalent bonds;and step 3: performing spinning and twisting on the covalently bonded carbon nanotube film obtained in the step 2 to a filament shape to obtain the carbon nanotube fiber material. The method enables strong covalent bond connection between the carbon nanotubes after ions or groups bombardment, so that the mechanical properties of the interface between the carbon nanotubes are significantly improved, when subjected to loading, the carbon nanotubes are not easy to break the failure due to slippage between carbon nanotubes; the compactness of carbon nanotube fibers can be improved by twisting, andthe van der Waals interaction between the carbon nanotubes can be increased.
