    • A device for opening blister packs without annular depressions around the blisters serving as guidance trails is provided comprising a handle and a cutter having a suitable transverse dimension and form of cross section at the position of the intended cutting, making it suitable for cutting the foil of the type used in blister packs, and for opening any pack or container wrapped in a foil or any other cutable material or tape used for packaging as such. A preferred cutter is having cutter formed essentially as a rod and further provided with a point in order to facilitate penetration of foils. The device may be provided with means for protection of the cutter in order to avoid unintended cuts during storage and transport. The handle of the device may be shaped in order to facilitate the use by elderly and/or patients suffering from a rheumatic disease. The device is versatile and simple to use and may provide a relief of a long felt problem for nurses and other medical staffs, elder patients and in particular patients suffering from a rheumatic disease.

    • A cut-off machine for cutting off predetermined lengths from a moving length of roll form material such as tubing adapted to be positioned downstream from a source such as a tube mill for receiving a moving length from the mill and severing plural predetermined lengths from the moving length. The machine comprises a plurality of cut-off assemblies which are reciprocated longitudinally of the moving length of material formed by the mill and operated during the movement to sever plural predetermined lengths. The reciprocating and cutting movements are mechanically derived from a motor driven in synchronism with the speed of movement of the moving length. The apparatus includes mechanisms that permit the length of the tubes to be changed while the machine is operating.

    • A sensing system for cut-to-length shear, for providing a shear control signal for a process line of material moving at a line speed which is a function of a voltage VL, the shear control signal being used for causing actuation of the shearing mechanism. A signal VB is derived which is a function of the predetermined cut length. A signal Vi is derived which is a function of the instantaneous length of material passing the shearing mechanism. An additional voltage Delta V is derived is a function of (VL tinertia/t) where tinertia is the time required for the shearing mechanism to respond to the shear control signal, and t is the running time required for a predetermined cut length to pass through the shearing mechanism at maximum line speed.
