    • A method of controlling a rotary cutter which is adapted to cut an elongated material (15), such as a steel plate and corrugated cardboard, which is transferred between a pair of rotating shears (13) having a shear blade on their respective circumferential surfaces, to a set length while controlling a shear driving motor (9). In this control method, an optimum shearing position of minimum energy is determined on the basis of a quantity of movement ($(1,5)$) of a material, and an optimum shearing speed of a minimum energy and an optimum level of a current in the motor on the basis of the quantity of movement ($(1,5)$) of a material and a speed ($(1,3)$) of the material, respectively. The shears are driven so as to meet the conditions thus determined.

    • A method for cutting manufactured articles (M) comprises steps of advancing a manufactured article (M) along an advancement direction (A) at a predetermined speed; predisposing a cutting device (3) associated with the manufactured article (M) and movable along the advancement direction (A); advancing the cutting device (3); synchronizing the speed of advancement of the cutting device (3) with the speed of advancement of the manufactured article (M); activating the cutting device (3); retracting the cutting device (3); the steps of synchronising and activating the cutting device (3) are comprised between the advancement step and a corresponding retracting step in order to define a cutting cycle of the manufactured article (M). The cutting cycle comprises further steps of re- synchronising the speed of advancement of the cutting device (3) with the speed of advancement of the manufactured article (M).
