摘要： A mechanical pencil has a body with a lead storage chamber defined therein for housing spare lengths of lead, and a tubular lead guide receiving a length of lead and coaxially, mounted in the body so as to partly protrude outwardly from its writing end. During writing or marking, the lead guide gradually retracts into the body against the force of a return spring with the wear of the lead received therein and, when the pencil is moved off the writing surface, is sprung back to it normal position. Disposed intermediate the lead storage chamber and the lead guide, a chuck coacts with an internally tapered socket for gripping the lead against displacement away from the writing end of the body. A chuck opener member is coupled to the lead guide in order to hold the chuck open when the lead guide is in the normal position, in order to assure the uninterrupted delivery of the successive lengths of lead from the lead storage chamber into the lead guide.

摘要： A mechanical pencil with an automatically propelled lead, comprising substantially tubular body means (1, 7, 23) having a writing end from which a tubular lead guide (2) partly protrudes under the bias of a spring (6), the lead guide receiving a lead (3) therein and being retractable into the body means against the bias of the spring with the wear of the lead, a friction member (4) mounted to the lead guide and engaging the lead so as to normally cause the lead to travel with the lead guide, and chuck means (5, 11, 12, 13) mounted within the body means for gripping the lead against axial displacement in a direction away from the writing end of the body means while permitting the lead to slide axially toward the writing end. In order to prevent the retracting lead guide (2) from being sprung back each time the pencil is moved off the writing surface, one-way locking means (9, 2C; 9, 5K; 9, 20A; 9, 1H; 20G, 25; 1M, 20G; 1N, 20H; 9, 31A; 9, 30E) are provided for locking the lead guide against displacement only in a direction toward the writing end of the body means. Also provided are unlocking means (2D, 8B; 17, 18; 8B, 19; 5L, 8C; 8C; 20C; 8B, 1J; 8C; 2D; 20F, 26; 8, 30A; 8, 39B; 8, 30A; 8, 20A) for causing the one-way locking means to permit the lead guide, as well as the lead being engaged by the friction member (4), to travel toward the marking end of the body means under the bias of the spring (6) when the lead is worn to a prescribed degree.

摘要： Mechanical pencil in which a chuck assembly for gripping a lead is formed with plural chuck elements mutually combined with each other. The chuck assembly has an internal longitudinal hole to insert a lead through and a lead gripping portion to grip the lead, while a lead guide tube is movably inserted within the lead inserting hole. The lead guide tube pushes on acting portions of the chuck to open the gripping portions of the chuck elements in the direction of parting them from each other when the lead guide tube is advanced, and the lead gripping portion opens to release the lead. The chuck is designed to enable releasing and gripping the lead securely so that it can be suitably used as a chuck mechanism for extending the lead automatically.

摘要： A propelling or automatic writing implement having a lead which can be projected from the implement without pushing. An inner frame having a chuck assembly for permitting advance of the lead but preventing retraction of the lead and a lead protecting tube having a holder for holding the lead with a suitable frictional force are housed in a main body and slidable axially thereof. A mechanism is provided for retracting the frame and the tube by a reaction to which the lead is subjected when pressed against the writing surface with a force of considerable magnitude and for returning them when the lead is released from the force, while permitting the tube to move backward and forward relative to the frame in the course of the reciprocating movement. The lead can be projected by the relative movement of the tube and the frame.
