    • A semi-solid link solenoid 10 comprises windings 22 held within a housing 20, and a spring biased plunger 24 which is free to slide axially within the windings. The plunger 24 slideably engages a contact rod 26 having an end knob 58. The end knob 58 of the contact rod 26 is contained within a center chamber 46 of the plunger 24 between a shoulder 47 and an abutment pin 50. A contact disc 28 is fixed to an opposite end of the contact rod 26. When the windings are energized and the plunger is pulled completely into the windings, the contact disc 28 is forced into contact with the terminals 30a and 30b. After electric current is removed from the windings, the plunger returns to its non-energized position. When returning to this position, the shoulder 47 slams against the end knob 58 with a large amount of force to pull the contact rod 26 and contact disc 28 away from the terminals 30a and 30b. In this manner, the force to disengage the contact disc 28 from the terminals 30a and 30b is significantly increased.

    • An electro-mechanical contactor is disclosed having a powerhead and a base housing. The powerhead has a set of stationary contacts mounted therein. A set of movable contacts are mounted on a movable contact carrier that moves the movable contacts between a contact open position and a contact closed position with respect to the stationary contacts. The movable contact carrier has an armature slot integrally molded therewith to loosely receive an armature therein so as to allow the armature to float within the movable contact carrier and the powerhead. The powerhead has a powerhead housing configured to guide and retain the floating armature during normal operation. Extended life of the contactor is achieved by eliminating a rigid mounting between the armature and the movable contact carrier.

    • An auxiliary position switch assembly for a circuit breaker provides an electrical signal to an external monitoring device indicative of the position of a pair of separable contacts of the circuit breaker. The auxiliary position switch assembly engages a rod that switches from a retracted and extended position in response to the opening and closing of the separable contacts of the circuit breaker. The switch assembly includes a switch having a pair of separable contacts and a plunger having one end engaging one of the contacts. The plunger slidably engages a concave upper engagement surface of a pivotally mounted actuator. The actuator includes a lower convex engagement surface that engages the rod. A biasing spring connected to the actuator urges the actuator against the rod during operation of the switch assembly. The switch provides a normally-open output or a normally closed-output depending upon the position of the plunger on the upper surface of the actuator for a specific position of the separable contacts of the circuit breaker.

    • The present invention provides a magnetic latching contactor for high current switching applications. A stationary assembly is provided which comprises a first passive biasing member and an active biasing member. A moveable assembly is slidably coupled to the stationary assembly for movement between a first stable position and a second stable position. A second passive biasing member is also provided. The first passive biasing member applies a first passive biasing force to the moveable assembly biasing the moveable assembly toward the first stable position. The second passive biasing member applies a second passive biasing force to the moveable assembly biasing the moveable assembly toward the second stable position. The active biasing member provides an active biasing force to the moveable assembly alternatively biasing the moveable assembly to the first stable position and the second stable position. In the absence of the active biasing force, the first passive biasing force is sufficient to maintain the moveable assembly in the first stable position, and the second passive biasing force is sufficient to maintain the moveable assembly in the second stable position. A momentary active biasing force is applied to the moveable assembly to move the moveable assembly between the first stable position and the second stable position. A contact assembly is provided which is coupled to the stationary assembly and the moveable assembly such that an electrical closed circuit is established in the first stable position and an electrical open circuit is established in the second stable position.

A hollow cylindrical coil 14 is secured by a casing side plate 16 of a casing 15 and another side plate 17 having a tapered cylindrical protrusion 17a in axial and radial directions with respect to a magnetic core including the side plates 16, 17 and the casing 15. When the movable non-magnetic shaft is an insulative material, the plate shaped movable contact 19 and the contact pressing coil spring 25 are assembled only with the insulative spring stopper member 22, and when the movable non-magnetic shaft 18 is an electrically conductive material, the plate shaped movable contact 19 and the contact pressing coil spring 25 are assembled with the insulative spring stopper member 22 and an insulative washer or bush 23, 24. Thereby, a reliable small size magnetic switch for a starter with a simplified structure can be realized which easily ensures the strength of an impact force receiving portion provided on the movable non-magnetic shaft 18 and endures a large vibration, and of which parts number, manufacturing steps and manufacturing cost are as well reduced.
