CONSTITUTION: This electrochemical cell is provided with electrode 2 comprising one lead wire 2' and spirally coiled on the circumference of a chimney 3 in the axial direction, which is to be used for filling an electrolyte inside a cylindrical casing 1. The outer circumference of the assembled body of the spirally coiled electrode 2 is not strictly cylindrical as to form a duct 4 for discharging air moved by the electrolyte. Practically, in the case the electrode is spirally coiled, an excess thickness exists due to the end part of the electrode coiled on the outside of a reel. The duct part where air can be elevated again is left in the pert of the excess thickness of the electrode assembled body in the whole height of the reel by inserting the spirally coiled electrode in a completely cylindrical casing. Further, based on the rigidity of the electrode, turns of the electrode have various faces having gaps between neighboring turns and the electrolyte and air can be circulated through the gaps.

摘要： PURPOSE: To improve the cycle of a rechargeable electrochemical battery by forming its cathode substance out of manganese dioxide which includes lithium ions and has an alpha manganese dioxide crystal structure called Cryptomelane. CONSTITUTION: A cathode substance is composed of manganese dioxide which includes lithium ions and has an alpha manganese dioxide crystal structure called Cryptomelane. The cathode substance is formed out of a mixture of alpha manganese dioxide and a lithium compound heated at 300 to 400 deg.C. The mole ratio of lithium to manganese is between 0.1 to 0.5 to 1.0. The heat treatment causes chemical reaction between alpha MnO2 and the lithium compound. The resultant product after the reaction is washed in water to remove an unconverted lithium compound therefrom. The period of the heat treatment is determined such that solids other than alpha dioxide of MnO2 , especially LiMn2 O4 and Li2 MnO3 are never formed in the reaction, for example to about 12 hours.

Thus, an intermediate member for assembling the battery case is not required at all, and slip off of the battery can be prevented.

摘要： PURPOSE: To prevent leakage current flowing and abnormal rise in temperature of a battery by using an insulation box for each flattened member, by setting an electrolyte transfer passage so as to have a predetermined size, and by burying a box and an edge of a metallic plate projecting therefrom into a heat conductive resin material. CONSTITUTION: In this battery, each flattened member 10 is enclosed one by one into an insulated sealed box formed with a bottom, a cover and a spacer 32 defining a side wall. The bottom of one box constitutes the cover of an adjacent box, and a corresponding hole is provided so that the spacer 32, the bottom and the cover define an electrolyte supply common path 47 perpendicular to a flattened member assembly. The spacer 32 is provided with further thin passages 48 and 49 to transfer electrolyte in the common path 47 to a cell 100. These passages 48 and 49 have small cross sections, and its lengths are determined in such a manner that an amount of electrolyte retained in the passages 48 and 49 is reduced to bring it to boiling in a short time. When the boiling causes foaming, the electrolyte in the passages 48 and 49 ruptures to eliminate leakage currents. The box and metallic plates 11 and 12 projecting therefrom are entirely buried into a heat conductive resin material. This can excrete calories to be dissipated during discharge in the resin direction.
