    • A manually adjustable blade assembly for an underwater pelletizer to enable radial adjustment and axial adjustment as well as maintaining parallelism of the blade assembly to the die cutting surface through the use of a shaft bearing support for the driven cutter blade assembly which enables accurate and positive adjustment of the rotating cutter blade assembly in relation to the cutting surface of a die in an underwater pelletizer. The shaft bearing support includes a screw-threaded adjustable bearing housing threaded into a bearing support plate having a base provided with vertical adjustment capability and lateral horizontal adjustment capability thereby enabling accurate axial adjustment of the cutting blade as well as radial adjustment and maintenance of parallelism between the cutting edges of the blades and the cutting surface of the die in an underwater pelletizer in a manner which maintains the cost at a minimum and provides a relatively uncomplicated structure to facilitate replacement of parts with the manual adjustment providing for longer blade life and flexibility for pelletizing various polymers.

    • The axial loading system is used in a tape slitter comprised of first and second arbors in spaced parallel relationship carrying male and female cutting knives for slitting tape. These cutting knives are in the form of a series of uniformly axially spaced discs on the first arbor having their corner peripheries bearing in an axial direction against corresponding female discs on the second arbor. The loading system comprises a combination threaded arrangement at one end of the first arbor with a torque applying tool for rotating the threaded means to thereby adjust the axial force of the male blades against the female blades. The torque applying tool not only enables the rotation to take place but will cease functioning after a given torque has been reached, thereby assuring that a given axial force of the male blades against the female blades will not be exceeded.

    • A method and apparatus for setting the positioning between a first rotating member and a second fixed or rotating member in a rotary machine comprises controlled thermal elements positioned on the frame supporting the members and/or on the rotating member(s) itself to counteract the effects of centrifugal force on the rotating member(s) to thereby approximately maintain the setting between the members. The temperature of the frame controlled by the thermal elements can be maintained in proportion to the speed of rotation of the rotary member(s) to maintain the setting of the rotary machine throughout its operating speed range. A predefined temperature may be set by the thermal elements prior to the manual setting of the rotary machine so that the temperature of the frame and/or rotating member(s) can be controlled to compensate for wear of the rotating member(s) in machines wherein such member(s) encounters wear over operating time.
