摘要： An improved flat cymbal is formed from a flat sheet of stainless metal by laser cutting it into a selected form, such as a Maltese Cross having four arms with spaces between the arms. An opening is formed in each of the four arms. The cymbal will produce a distinctive sound that may be modified or tuned by changing the size of the openings or inserting jingles, rivets, sizzlers or shrapnel in the openings in the arms.

摘要： Method and apparatus for guiding a moving tape having a tape edge parallel to a direction of motion of the tape wherein the tape is received tangentially on a curved surface having an edge. Force applied to the tape is increased as the tape drifts farther away from a nominal position so as to move the tape away from the edge of the surface. Lateral motion of the tape is dampened by breaking up an air-cushion between the tape and the curved surface.

摘要： The invention involves a novel method and structure for utilizing homeotropic vertically aligned nematic liquid crystal cells in the production of high contrast microdisplays. Two circular polarizers are used in order to propagate circularly polarized, rather than planar polarized, light through a liquid crystal cell. The use of circularly polarized light eliminates the liquid crystal director alignment requirements for the transmittance of light necessary for planar polarized light. With no director alignment requirement, it is possible to use perfectly homeotropic vertically aligned nematic cells irrespective of domain size and shape because fringing field induced director tilt will not decrease the transmittance of the liquid crystal cell.
