    • An improved electrode headset is provided for the acquisition of electroencephalographic (EEG) brain signals detected at the scalp of a human subject. The headset includes an elastic fabric cap having a chinstrap, which cap is fitted closely to the scalp. The cap has openings at those selected locations on the scalp to which removable and disposable electrodes are to be removably connected to the scalp. A positioning unit, of a generally flat and flexible plastic material, is attachable to the cap by corresponding hook-and-loop fasteners on the outer surface of the cap and the inner surface of the positioning unit. The positioning unit has a base portion and two opposite leg portions, each with slits. Flat beams are adjustably connected through the slits to the leg portions and base portion. Each beam carries a screw member which adjustably applies pressure to electrode holders and a flexible electrode extractor strap to which the electrode holder is attached. Each electrode holder is snap fastened to an electrode positioned within a cap opening.

    • Profiles hold cache settings externally from a requesting resource. The external cache settings stored within a profile may be associated with one or more resources. This allows the external cache settings for a group of resources to be managed from one location rather than having to change the internal cache settings for each resource. When a resource is processed by the server, the external cache settings are obtained from a cache profile and applied to the requesting resource. The external cache settings may also be merged with any internal resource settings. As a result of merging the settings some of the external cache settings and/or some of the internal cache settings may be overridden.

    • A floating-point number is encoded into a binary string. A left-to-right comparison of the binary string determines relative magnitude of the floating-point number. If the floating-point number is negative, then take an absolute value of the floating-point number. The resulting binary string conversion is then complemented. If the floating-point number is zero, then a value for the binary string is assigned. The value is a “1” followed by a plurality of “0”s. A portion of each byte of the binary string determines whether another byte follows in the binary string. A value of a bit of each byte of the binary string determines whether another byte follows. In another aspect, the floating-point number encodes to a binary string having a length as a function of the mantissa and exponent of the floating-point number.
