摘要： A method of monitoring an operating parameter of an apparatus. The method comprises taking a measurement of the operating parameter of the apparatus on multiple occasions. The mean and standard deviation of a set of threshold determining values is then determined, the threshold determining values each being dependent on at least one of the operating parameter measurements. Thereafter an event threshold, dependent on the mean and standard deviation of the set of threshold determining values is determined. The operating condition value is monitored, where the operating condition value at any given time is dependent on at least one of the operating parameter measurements. Finally an event signal is generated if the operating condition value is in a regime beyond the event threshold.

The state of the control valve 46 is set by pneumatic pressure in the manifold 56. Main injectors 50 are supplied with fuel from the manifold 60 by main injection circuits 48, through main valves 52. The state of the main valves 52 is set by hydraulic pressure in a manifold 58. Accordingly, control signals to the valves 46, 52 are conveyed independently by means of the pneumatic manifold 56 and the hydraulic manifold 58.

The method determines if the range 84 of actual conditions exceeds a threshold value, representing an unacceptable mismatch of actuator positions. This comparison is used to establish further demand instructions. For example, if the range is too great, and the average 82 is below the demand line 81, the devices are instructed to move to the upper extreme position at 88. If the average position 82 is above the demand line 81, the devices are instructed to move to the lower end of the range, at 90.
This results in the actuator positions moving together, as they also move toward the demand line 81, reducing risks associated with actuator mismatches.

According to the method the sensors (3) are connected with state observers established on the base of engine (object) (1) model, one observer being connected with all sensors and each of remain observers with all sensors except one, the weighted sum of squared residuals of all observers is determined, the value of weighted sum of squared residuals of the first observer is compared with the values of weighted sums of squared residuals of the each observer from the remain ones, the maximum of received difference signal values is compared with threshold value and the failure signal is established for that sensor (3) indications of which are not used in observer for which this value exceeds the threshold, for each state observer is determined the region of possible residual locations, caused by the errors of predetermined parameters of object model, and it is defined that state observers the residuals of which are outside the limits of predetermined region.
