    • Program insertion in real time IP multicast enables the seamless insertion of a secondary program within an IP multicast session of a primary program. A primary content provider transmits its multimedia stream to a first proxy that transmits the data to a destination multicast session. A secondary content provider interested in inserting a program into that destination multicast session sends a request through a second proxy to the first proxy requesting a time slot to insert secondary program. The request includes the duration of the secondary program. The first proxy responds with a time slot or a denial of the request depending if a time slot is available. Assuming an available time slot, at the appropriate time the first proxy transfers control of the destination multicast session to the second proxy which transmits the secondary program. Upon completion of the secondary program the second proxy returns control of the session to the first proxy. All scheduling and control transfer occurs through the development of a new protocol to manage the transfer of control. Smooth transitions occur by manipulation of the RTP header in the packets and the associated RTCP stream.

    • A system and method for enabling a user with a mobile device to link to information, on a local or global electronic network, related to an item of interest to the user while observing a visual, audio, or printed medium containing the item.     • A method and system for delivering a datagram across multiple inter-network servers. The datagram is delivered from a source device having a first network level protocol to a destination device having a second network level protocol. The inter-network servers transport the datagram in accordance with a transport level protocol while the datagram has a transport priority defined by the first and second network level protocols. The source device delivers the datagram from a source port that designates the transport priority and the destination device receives the datagram at a destination port that also designates the transport priority. In accordance with the method of the present invention, either the source port or said destination port is first identified. The transport priority of said datagram is identified utilizing the transport priority designation of the identified source port or destination port. A current server capacity of each of the inter-network servers is determined. A server eligibility for each of the inter-network servers is determined in accordance with the determined current server capacity and the determined transport priority. Finally, the datagram is dispatched to one of the inter-network servers in accordance with the determined server eligibility.

    • A system and method is disclosed for in-field communication connectivity verification reporting between centralized on-line centers, and a number of in-field subscribing stations. The substations each have associated therewith an in-field product controlled by software which requires periodic upgrading, maintenance, service, and general monitoring. The system and method includes a computer program and a computer data signal embodied in a carrier wave for carrying out the process, which includes submitting customer and product data, and a user selected mode of notification of completion electronically to a centralized on-line center, which in turn creates a configuration module based on the submitted customer and product data. The configuration module is then transmitted to the subscribing station by the on-line center. The configuration module is loaded into the subscribing station to allow future communications between the on-line center and the subscribing station. The on-line center automatically confirms connectivity for future automatic communications. The on-line center creates an output connectivity report that includes data on the connection and configuration. The connectivity report can include a status report that is sent to the user based on the user selected mode of notification, which can include an email notice, a voice mail notice, and/or a pager notice. Additionally, a problem/solution database is queried if a problem is encountered and the connectivity report can also include a possible solution to a problem encounter.
