    • The invention relates to a method of selecting a RTP (Real Time Protocol) element in a dynamic multicast tree for a multimedia conference and a record medium recorded with a program for realizing the method that can be read by computers, and in particular to a method of selecting a RTP element in a dynamic multicast tree for distributing an overload applied to the root node of the dynamic multicast tree and a record medium recorded with a program for realizing the method that can be read by computers. The method comprises the steps of: (a) confirming in the RTP element if the RTP element is subscribed to the dynamic multicast tree that a new multimedia terminal wants to join; (b) if the RTP element is not subscribed to the dynamic multicast that the new multimedia terminal wants to join according to a result of the confirmation in the step (a), joining in the RTP element the root node of the dynamic multicast tree and then causing the new multimedia terminal to join the dynamic multicast tree of a multimedia conference system; and (c) if the RTP element is subscribed to the dynamic multicast that the new multimedia terminal wants to join according to a result of the confirmation in the step (a), causing the new multimedia terminal to join the dynamic multicast tree of the multimedia conference system.

    • An auto-discovery system discovers related components of a service operating on a distributed network. This auto-discovery system involves (1) selecting a model of the configuration of the service; (2) determining, from the model, “scope hints” that limit the possible locations of related components; (3) determining a root component of the service; (4) using scope hints to limit the search, to rapidly find related instances of components contained in the root service component; (5) determining whether a quorum of components comprising a distributed service has been discovered; (6) determining the parent service component of each discovered service component by instance matching; and (7) using the instance match information to determine the discovery tree of components that have the structure of the service map, share a common root component, and define a service group. This auto-discovery system efficiently discovers the components of a wide range of services within a distributed environment. The system limits the scope of searches for components related to previously discovered components. The system determines the relationships between the discovered service components, and matches them into groups of related services. This enables an operational manager of a distributed service to better determine service configurations, expand resource bottlenecks, and improve an end-users' experience.

    • The invention is directed to techniques for moving data elements within a data communications device which prioritizes handling transmit interrupts over handling receive interrupts. Preferably, while attending to transmit interrupts, the device gives priority to the “hungriest” interfaces. In one arrangement, the device includes multiple network interfaces which are capable of transmitting and receiving data elements with a network, and a controller, coupled to the interfaces. The controller is configured to perform a method comprising the steps of: assigning weights to the interfaces based on interface transmission capacities and/or the number of data elements ready for transmission through the interfaces; determining which of the interfaces indicates readiness to transmit a data element to the network and which of the interfaces indicates receipt of a data element from the network; exclusively running, for each interface indicating readiness to transmit a data element to the network, a transmit interrupt handler to load that interface with a data element for transmission if such a data element is available for transmission within the data communications device (the handling order of the interfaces being determined by the weights so that the “hungriest” interfaces are handled first); and after the step of exclusively running transmit interrupt handlers, running, for at least one interface which indicates receipt of a data element from the network, a receive interrupt handler to process that data element and restricting the amount of time consumed running the receive interrupt handlers before handling transmit interrupts again. Since the device prioritizes handling transmit interrupts over receive interrupts in a weighted preferential manner, the device handles transmit interrupts as early as possible to move data elements quickly to the interfaces. Accordingly, it is less likely that interfaces will “starve” for data elements.

    • The invention provides a system and method for analyzing a collection of communication messages. The communication messages may be any one of a collection of electronic mail messages, voicemail messages, instant messaging dialogues and other forms of communications. The collections of communications, such as electronic mail messages, may be selected by a user and then subsequently processed to determine the identity of any of the user's contacts within the communications. The contacts may then be arranged in a relative priority arrangement whereby contacts which have been identified as engaging in prior reciprocal communications with the user are given higher priority. Higher priority may also be given to contacts which engage in more recent communications with the user. Specific contact relationships may be inferred from the communications depending on whether specific contacts are repeatedly mentioned within the communication messages.

    • Disclosed is a method, system, and program for providing a connection to a merchant server implementing a merchant electronic commerce (e-commerce) web site at a customer computer. A request is received from the customer computer, through a third party internet service provider (ISP), for a web page from the merchant server made from a link within a web page from a third party server. An installation program is transmitted to the customer computer in response to the request from the customer computer. The installation program executes on the customer computer to install an access program on the customer computer that when executed by the customer computer opens a direct connection from the customer computer to the merchant server without going through the third party ISP.

    • A system and method for managing multiple proxy servers by a client computer. In one embodiment, the client computer's configuration is set to the fastest proxy server available. In another embodiment, a proxy table is accessed by the client computer to determine which proxy to use for a given web address. When a web address is included in the table, the corresponding proxy server is used to request the contents of the web address. If the web address is not included in the table, a default proxy server is used to request the information. In another embodiment, a periodic test is made to determine the speed of the current proxy server. If the speed is less than a predetermined threshold, the available proxy servers are all tested and the best-performing proxy server is selected. In another embodiment, aspects of each of the above-described embodiments are combined to provide a proxy server to a client computer based upon either a given web address (URL) or the fastest current proxy server.
