    • Method for classifying records by relevance to nodes of a hierarchical structure representative of a classification scheme for different classification options, such as a taxonomy of objects, comprising: receiving (22) an input record having record content features, and a contextual attribute indicative of a receipt context of the input record; retrieving (24) relational data indicative of nodes of the hierarchical structure associated with the contextual attribute; determining (30) a relevance score for the nodes of the hierarchical structure to classify (52) the input record. The relevance score of each node depends on: a comparison of the record content features relative to the classification option represented by the node; and the retrieved relational data. The relevant score can be the probability of the input record relating to a node. Contextual information comprises: source of the input record; its time or date of generation or receipt; accompanying records and/or their relevance to the nodes. Hierarchical structures comprise: directed acyclic graphs, trees, and/or corresponding forests. Using historical records reduces uncertainty on the relevant scores. Using contextual information, external to records, in addition to internal information on the subject of the record enables more accurate relevance scores.
