    • A method for controlling the dimensions of an elongated material (6) rolled in a rolling mill comprising at least three mill stands (1, 2, 3) arranged after each other, wherein a first stand (1) is arranged upstream of a second stand (2), which is arranged upstream of a third stand (3). Each of said stands comprises two spaced rolls (4, 5). Said elongated material is fed between the rolls of each stand by rotating the rolls, wherein an interstand tension is controlled between at least two of said stands. A tail (7) of the rolled material (6) is detected leaving the first stand, and after said detection, a back tension control between the first (1) and the second stand (2) is switched off for the period while the tail (7) travels between the first stand and the second stand, and a front tension control between the second (2) and the third stand (3) is switched on for the period while the tail travels between the first stand and the second stand.

    • A rolling apparatus and method that can prevent zigzag motions of the tail end of a rolled material and thereby prevent its area reduction. Work rolls (2) of a rolling stand (F1) from which the end of the plate material (6) being rolled comes off and work rolls (2) of a subsequent rolling stand (F2) are controlled to the same rotation speeds (rolling speeds). The tension between the rolling stand (F1) and the next rolling stand (F2) is controlled to be zero so that the difference in tension between the working side and the driving side or between the rolling stand (F1) and the rolling stand (F2) is zero. Similarly, in a plurality of rolling stands (F2 to Fn) the difference in tension between the working side and the driving side is controlled to be zero when the end of the plate material (6) comes off the preceding rolling stand.
