Delivering molten metal.-Relates to shearing- mechanism, for use with flow feed delivery apparatus of the type in which the shear arms 7 are held back by springs 9 until, as the mechanism is moved forward along the slide 5, pins 7 on the rearwardly projecting parts of the shear arms strike an adjustable stop 11 on the furnace casing and close the shears on the issuing stream of molten metal. According to the invention, the mechanism is moved backwards and forwards along the slide 5 by a pneumatic cylinder instead of by cams, as hitherto.

Blowing.-Relates to machines of the " Schiller " type for making narrow-necked bottles, and particularly to means for sucking the molten metal down into the neck mould. Compressed air escapes from a nozzle h into a conical orifice k and produces a partial vacuum in a chamber m, which can be placed in communication with the neck mould by a tap o. A handle c is arranged to operate the tap o through a forked lever q, and also the tap for the blowing air. Instead of the ejector shown, a pump may be employed to produce the vacuum. Several machines may be connected to the chamber m.

Traversing-cutter type for cutting rectilinearly. -In a machine for cutting trouser bottoms, &c., the garments are held by an adjustable clamp carried by a lever, while a hand-moved rotary cutter traverses a slot in the table and cuts off the length necessary. A cam on the lever of the clamp releases a trip lever which unclutches the cutter-driving mechanism when the lever is raised to lift the clamp out of its operative position. The garments are placed in the table A and are clamped by the presser D carried by the lever E which is pivoted at F and operated by the handle G. The presser is connected to its lever by slotted lugs H and thumb-screws at each end, so that each end may be adjusted independently of the other. The cutter K is driven by a band or chain X which passes round a sprocketwheel M on its shaft, and is kept in driving contact by the jockey pulley Z and a guide bridge niece Z'. The cutter is moved across the machine by the handle P. The clutch S, Fig. 3, is operated by the handle T and kept in action by the iatch U on the lever V having a stud V to bear against the cam W on the lever E. When this lever is raised, a spring forces the latch and opens the clutch. In a modification, the cutter chain is driven by an electric motor carried by an overhead frame; a switch on the pivot of the lever E stops the motor when the lever is raised.
