    • 23,639. Soc. Anon. des Automobiles E. BrilliÚ. Nov. 20, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Motor road vehicles.-A six. wheeled motor road vehicle, in which the middle wheels drive while the front and rear pairs of wheels are connected for steering, is provided with h a system of equalizing-levers combined with the springs of the driving and rear steering-wheels, and a system of steering-connexions adapted to effect the convergence of the wheel spindles to a common centre. Fig. 4 shows a plan of the vehicle, and Fig. 2 a section of the driving and rear steering-wheels. The adjacent ends of the springs on each side of the two rear axles are connected by links to balance levers o, n pivoted to the frame, and adapted to put a greater load on the driving-axle than on the rear axle. With this construction, the vertical displacement of only one wheel, a rear one for example, and the consequent tilting of the spring on that side would tend to twist the axle. This is avoided by connecting both springs to the rear axle by pivots r , the axle being maintained in position by two links u anchored to the frame, one link being connected to the axle by a vertical pivot, and the other by an horizontal pivot. Instead of the above' arrangement, the axle could be maintained in position by pivoting only one of the springs to the axle, the other being fixed to it. This system of spring connexions could be applied also to the driving-axle. The swivelling axles of each pair of wheels are connected to one another by cross-rods 15, 16, and the front and rear pairs are connected by longitudinal rods 9, 13 to arms 10, 12 on a transverse shaft 11, the angle of displacement of the back wheels being less than that of the front wheels. As the rods 9, 13 are connected to the front and rear wheels on opposite sides of the vehicle, the arms 10, 12 are arranged at an angle to one another sufficient to compensate for the wheels towards the inside of the curve being deflected more than those on the outside.
