[Class 40 (i)] [See also Groups XX and XXIX] A measuring member is moved to an extent determined by the depth to which a hydrometer sinks in the liquid being tested and is operatively connected to a movable specific gravity indicator, preferably a rotatable graduated drum. In the form shown, the hydrometer vessel 10 has a cylindrical extension 12 with an inlet (not shown), and an outlet 14 and is provided at the top with an overflow trough 17 to which are fixed three vertical guide bars 24 for a spider 23 fixed to the upper end of the hydrometer 11. In use, a lever 16 operating a piston 15 controlling the inlet and outlet to the vessel 10 is moved to the position A. A receptacle filled with the liquid to be tested and provided with a spring-closed valve in its bottom is placed on a support carried by the trough 17 and having a projection which automatically opens the valve and allows the liquid to flow into the vessel 10, whereupon the hydrometer 11 takes up a position dependant upon the specific gravity of the liquid. The lever 16 is then moved to the position B where it operates two switches closing the circuits respectively of a reversible motor 32 driving a friction wheel 34 and of an electromagnet which rocks the motor 32 to bring the friction wheel 34 into driving engagement with a friction wheel 35. The spindle 36 of the latter is geared through reduction gearing 37, 38, 39 to a drum 29 with specific gravity scales and through worm gearing 40 to a worm wheel 41 which is rotatably mounted in fixed bearings 42 and has a screw-threaded engagement with a measuring rod 22. The motor 32 continues to run and raise the rod 22 until a pair of mercury cups 28 carried by the rod 22 make contact with a pair of contacts 26 carried by the hydrometer 11 whereupon the motor 32 is simultaneously stopped and rocked to withdraw the friction wheel 34 from the wheel 35. A fixed but adjustable drum coaxial with and adjacent the drum 29 is provided with a temperature scale. An arm 50 pivoted on the axis of the drums is moved to a position where an index line 48 spanning both drums coincides with the temperature graduation corresponding to the reading of a thermometer 21 in an extension 20 of the vessel 10 whereupon the specific gravity corrected for temperature may be read from the drum 29. The lever 16 is then moved to the position C putting the vessel 10 into communication with the outlet 14 and closing contacts which cause the motor 32 to drive the rod 22 and drum 29 in the reverse direction until they are restored to their initial position.

    • Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide a flexible canopy. In one embodiment, the flexible canopy includes a central shaft, a sliding collar, a plurality of supports, a plurality of tensioners, a tensioner connection hub, and a membrane. The sliding collar is slidably connected to and surrounds the central shaft. A first end of each of the supports is connected to the sliding collar, and a second end of each of the supports is connected to the membrane near the edge of the membrane. Each of the tensioners is connected at one end to a different one of the supports and at the other end to the tensioner connection hub. In one embodiment, the flexible canopy includes a handle connected to a first, lower end of the central shaft. In other embodiments, the first, lower end of the central shaft includes or is insertable into a base.
