Welding; forging.-The adjustability of the clamping-devices described in the parent Specification in connection with apparatus for electric welding or electrically heating forgings is in creased by mounting the gripping-jaws a, b on holders y which embrace the current conductors c, d after the manner of pipe clips and on which the jaws can be adjusted along and about axes perpendicular to the axes of the conductors whilst still being automatically locked against movement on the conductors when tightened up, or by mounting each conductor c, d to turn with the clamping-device thereon about an axis perpendicular to its own axis, or both. In effecting the former adjustment, as shown in Fig. 1, one jaw a is mounted directly on a split or divided extension z of the holder y while the other jaw b is slidably arranged on a support j having a boss j embracing the extension z. When the jaws a, b are tightened up by an operating screwthreaded spindle j , the holder y is simultaneously held rigid on the conductor c or d. The other adjustment may be made by providing the conductor c or d, Fig. 2, with a vertical extension w supported in a divided clip d , to the lugs v of which the transformer is connected.
