SOLUTION: In the case of execution for an incompleted sock, the sock is insert-set to the insertion plate 12 of an overcasting stitch detector 10 to insert-hold this sock respectively by the insert-holding arm parts 22a and 22b of an upper insert-holding part 22 at the upper side of the overcasting stitch and by rollers 20a and 20b at the lower side of the overcasting stitch. The supporting position of the part 22 is moved up, etc., in this state to stretch the inserting direction of the sock and the image of the situation of stitches including the overcasting stitch formed at the sock is picked up by CCD cameras 24a and 24b. Then a picked-up multilevel image is inputted to an image processor 26 to convert to a binary picture, an overcasting stitch area is extracted by an extraction part 36 and its position is calculated at a position calculating part 38.

In loading the cassette 24 up to the normal position of a shelf 22, the microswitch 45 of a butting wall face 22e is closed and the information in the RAM is extracted through a light emitting element 47a and a light receiving element 47b in an upper side guide slot 22c opposed to the window 26. Since the commodity information in the IC circuit 27 is read optionally by an external controller in this way, accurate lending management is attained.
