[Class 40 (iv).] A loud - speaker comprises a conical diaphragm a , as shown in the Figure, enclosed within a shallow unobstructed cylindrical casing h, having apertures m in its periphery and a central aperture k in one end wall, the chassis d being secured to the end wall round the aperture k and not in contact with the casing at any other point. According to another aspect of the invention, the conical diaphragm a is enclosed within the cylindrical casing h, secured round the opening k to the chassis d, the apex of the diaphragm extending through an aperture in the rear end wall. Further apertures l may be provided in the front wall of the casing which is preferably of plywood. The rear wall may comprise two or more pieces, not in contact with each other and independently secured to the periphery g, so as to respond to different frequencies, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). A disc q of brass or other metal may be adjustably mounted in front of the diaphragm a and is stated to improve the reproduction of brass instruments. The loudspeaker may be wholly contained within the cylindrical casing.

Scaffolding.-A staging support consists of two L-iron members 4, 9 of different lengths, the member 9 being pivoted to the member 4 at 13 and have an inclined end 10 adapted to abut against an incline on a filling piece 7 when the members are in the supporting position. The member 9 is further cupported by the flange 21 of the member 4, this flange being cut away at 22 to receive the joggled end of the flange of the member 9 and having inclined meeting edges 24, 25. Either of the members 4 or 9 may be secured to the scaffolding cross bars, the other member then being capable of upward pivoting motion with relation to the fixed member. Fig. 5.

Floors, cleaning. - A machine for waxing and polishing floors comprises a carriage 1 supported on three wheels and carrying a bearing 5 for a short shaft 6 connected by a flexible coupling 15 with another shaft 13 working in a tube 12 supported on the carriage by three stays 11. At the upper end of the shaft 13 is fixed a pinion 14 gearing with a wheel 16 turned by a handle 17, or the shaft may be driven by an electric motor. The bearing 5 is downwardly extended to take a shaft 7 fixed to a brush 9, the ends of the shafts 6 and 7 being detachably interlocked. For distributing wax a worm 24 is fixed to the bearing 5, and a receptacle 22 with a removable cover 23 is fixed to the brush so that as the receptacle revolves the wax is expressed on to the floor through a hole 27. The machine is guided over the floor by a handle 18 fixed to the tube 12. For polishing, the brush is replaced by a pad consisting of a felt-covered disc over which a duster may be clipped.
