    • An optical switch for switching the connection of light (optical signal) by using optical fibers. Optical fiber tapes (6) are fixed with a bonding agent to an upper surface of an optical fiber setting base (2). A plurality of slave side optical fibers (3) are projected from the optical fiber tapes (6). A grooved member (1) having a plurality of V-shaped grooves (5) and a master optical fiber (4) fitted fixedly in a V-shaped groove (5a) is provided close to free ends of the slave side optical fibers (3), and the master optical fiber (4) along with the grooved member (1) is moved in the X and Y directions in the drawing by a master optical fiber driving unit (25) so as to selectively insert a connecting end portion of a slave side optical fiber (3) into the V-shaped groove (5a), the connecting end surfaces of the master optical fiber (4) and selected slave side optical fiber being thus opposed to each other in the V-shaped groove (5a), whereby the master optical fiber (4) and slave side optical fibers (3) are connected together optically and switchably. During this optical connection operation, the connecting end portions of the master optical fiber (4) and slave side optical fiber (3) are held under pressure from the above of the V-shaped groove (5a) by a holding member.
