    • A terminal fitting (T) has a rectangular tube (10) with a bottom plate (12). A resilient contact (25) extends back into the tube (10) from an end of the bottom plate (12). A base portion (33) is formed at the front end of the bottom plate (12) and is made narrower than the bottom plate (12) by cutting away the left and right edges. A bulge (34) bulges out from a lateral edge of the base portion (33) and narrows an area of an opening between the base portion (33) and the right side plate (13R). Thus, external matter is less likely to intrude into the rectangular tube (10) through the opening even if the resilient contact (25) is narrow. Additionally, the base portion (33) is reinforced by the bulge (34). Thus, the base portion (33) is less likely to be deformed by external matter.

    • A waterproof connector is provided with a moving support plate without requiring an increase in size of the connector.     • A connector is provided to increase the strength for stopping a forward movement of a terminal fitting. The connector has a housing 11 with a cavity 12. A locking portion 18 is disposed in the cavity 12. Opposite side surfaces of a portion of a locking portion 18 more toward the leading end thereof than a locking projection 19 are cut off to form cut surfaces 21. Contact portions 23 projecting inward are formed continuously with a front wall 13 in areas of side surfaces of the cavity 12 facing the cut surfaces 21. Stabilizers 8 provided on a male terminal fitting 1 can come into contact with the back edges of the contact portions 23. A forward movement of the male terminal fitting 1 properly inserted is stopped by the contact with the front wall 13 and the contact of the stabilizers 8 with the contact portions 23. Since the contact portions 23 are formed taking advantage of spaces obtained by cutting off parts of the locking portion 18, they do not cause any enlargement of the cavity 12. Further, this portion of the locking portion 18 toward the leading end thereof from the locking projection 19 has almost no influence on the strength for locking the terminal fitting 1 so as not to be withdrawn backward, and the same degree of a locking force against the backward movement of the terminal fitting 1 as the locking portion of the prior art connector described above can be secured.
