    • A power connector for receipt and releasable engagement with a wire to effect a transmitting power electrical connection to the wire. The power connector includes a connector housing having a wire insertion side with an opening for receiving the wire. A spring contact is disposed within the housing and includes an attachment end for attaching the spring contact to the connector housing and a contact end for contact with the wire. The spring contact includes a substantially C-shaped segment extending between the attachment end and contact end. The C-shaped segment is dimensioned to be maintained under compression and so that the spring contact applies a contact force against an inserted wire at the contact end with a force sufficient for supporting the conducting of electricity between the wire and contact end. The C-shaped segment is further oriented so that when a lateral force is imparted to the C-shaped segment from the wire-insertion side of the housing, the contact force applied against the wire is reduced to thereby reduce the force required to disengage and remove the wire from the connector housing.

    • On instructions obtained from a subscriber, a wireless terminal service provider sends a power-down signal to a wireless terminal. Upon receipt of the power-down signal, the wireless terminal goes into a sleep state. In this state, all monitoring functions other than time, date and elapsed time are turned off. The power-down signal sets a clock, which can be located within the wireless terminal, to awaken the wireless terminal at the end of a discrete interval of time by powering-up the monitoring circuits. The wireless terminal service provider, by knowing the power-down/power-up time cycle of the wireless terminal, can alert a party attempting to contact the wireless terminal during the power-down period that the called party cannot be reached. The wireless terminal service provider can also offer various options to the calling party, such as providing the time when the called wireless terminal will next be on, offer to take a message which can be sent when the called wireless terminal is next on, offer to cancel any further attempt to send the message to the called wireless terminal, etc. Normally, the power-down control signal will condition the wireless terminal to assume the sleep state for a discrete interval of time. Extended intervals of time can be obtained by resending the control signal at the end of the discrete interval of time. If desired, a two-part control signal can be sent to the wireless terminal where one part conditions the wireless terminal to assume the power-down state and the other part controls the duration of the power-down state.

    • An EDS tester is combined with an employee identifier and recording monitor so as to provide and audit trail of compliance with the fact of ESD testing and, if desired, a record of the ESD test results such as body resistance or charge. In one illustrative embodiment, a fingerprint identifier pad is used together with the ESD test to identify a unique biological characteristic of the worker being tested. In addition, the feature of providing physical contact with the workers body typically required for ESD testing may be combined with the fingerprint identifier pad thereby enabling the ESD test results to be correlated with a specific individual.
