    • A rotary circuit breaker door safety interlock for use with a power switch actuated by a rotating shaft installed in a enclosure with a hinged door is disclosed. The door safety rotary circuit breaker interlock functions both to prevent the enclosure door from being opened unless the power switch has first been turned OFF, and to prevent the power switch from being turned ON while the enclosure door is open. The door safety rotary circuit breaker interlock can be intentionally overridden to allow the enclosure door to be opened without turning the power switch OFF, and to allow the power switch to be turned ON while the enclosure door is open. The door safety rotary circuit breaker interlock is simple mechanically, requires no springs or deformable members for its operation, and can be adapted to many mounting variations in enclosures having doors that hinge at the left, right, top, or bottom.

    • A method of assaying a plurality of soil samples collected at intervals across an exploration territory for subsurface oil or gas deposits, which method comprises: (i) determining from a first portion of a first sample a first value which represents a first microbial activity and which is attributable to microorganisms which metabolise a selected hydrocarbon gas; (ii) determining from a second portion of the first sample a second value which represents a second microbial activity and which is attributable to a representative proportion of all microorganisms in the sample; (iii) repeating steps (i) and (ii) for further samples; and (iv) determining for each sample the first microbial activity relative to the second microbial activity from the said first and second values obtained for each sample. The concentration of free hydrocarbon gas may also be taken at each site at which a soil sample is taken and combined with the determination made in step (iv).

    • The present Invention relates to an apparatus that is used in the building of a tire and an assembly process for building a tire. The apparatus comprises an apparatus frame and a main shaft that is rotatable in at least one axis about the apparatus frame. The apparatus further comprises a building drum that is provided with a plurality of drum segments disposed concentrically about the axial Center of the drum and are movable in both the axial and radial directions and is fixed to the main shaft in rotation. The drum segments further comprise right and left shoulders located axially at the lateral edges, and the Base of each of the shoulder extends axially to form a lateral projection. At least one version of the apparatus has right and left shoulders of unequal heights to facilitate fabrication of tires having unequal bead seat diameters. The apparatus further comprises at least a right and a left side assembly coaxially attached to the main shaft and located proximately to the lateral projection of the drum segments. At least one side assembly is capable of sliding axially at least partly under the lateral projection. Furthermore, at least one side assembly is capable of radial expansion and retraction.

A crank of eccentrically-operated forging press has its crank of eccentric shaft bearings 11 pre-loaded and its ram 16 balanced both statically and dynamically with the dynamic balancing being effective just prior to the application of pressure to the workpiece. The eccentric shaft 10 runs in phosphor bronze bearings 11 and is biased upwardly by an air cylinder 26 containing pistons 27 in tandem on a common rod 25 connected by a barrelled pin 24 to two housings 20 for ball races 18. On the other end of the shaft 10, which carries a brake 28, Fig. 3 (not shown), a single piston and a single connecting rod and ball race are used. Instead of the air cylinders, coil springs or packs of spring washers may be used. The ram 16 is balanced by a piston 38 in an air cylinder 37 having a ring of ports 40 from which the air can escape during descent of the ram. Just prior to engagement with the workpiece, the ports 40 are closed by the piston thereby trapping air in the cylinder to provide dynamic balance and take up any slackness in the big and small end bearings 14, 15. A valve 42 provides " inching " movement for the ram. The air escaping from ports 40 or valve 42 passes into an air chamber 41 in the press frame.

[Also in Group XXII] A control mechanism for moving parts of machines, such as the valve gear of fluid-pressure operated hammers, presses or like machines comprises means for slidably moving a sleeve 29, Fig. 6, on an upper fixed ram 27 and a lower movable ram 28, and a space 291 between the rams connected to a source of pressure fluid and a reservoir, the movement of the sleeve controlling the flow to the reservoir and the movement of the lower ram. The source of pressure fluid is connected to an inlet 31 leading to the interior of the upper ram 27 and the space 291, and in the neutral position, as shown, the fluid passes through an outlet 47 to a reservoir. When the sleeve is moved downwardly by a footoperated treadle, the sleeve slides over the rams and the flow from the space between the rams is restricted, the resulting rise in pressure moving the lower ram downwards to operate the valve on the machine. The upper end of the lower ram has interconnected passages 281, 282 which provide a dashpot effect and eliminate shocks caused by sudden downward movements of the sleeve. In another embodiment, the downward movement of the sleeve 79, Fig. 12, is effected by a pivoted hand lever 87 and the resulting downward movement of the lower ram 81 displaces fluid at its lower end to operate a piston- and cylinder device 86 connected to the valve of the machine.
