摘要： To an aqueous alkali extract containing iso- Alpha -acids, prepared by subjecting hops to extraction of Alpha -acids therefrom and isomerization thereof in an aqueous alkali, an acid is added to adjust the pH value of the extract to a value of from 4.0 to 5.7 thereby to cause precipitation of coexisting impurity materials existing in dissolved state, whereas the iso- Alpha acids remaining in dissolved state, and the resulting precipitate is removed, whereupon an isomerized hop extract of high isoAlpha -acid utilization is produced without any harmful organic solvent.

摘要： A centering bell adapted to hold a container in register with a filling valve during filling operation is bored to receive with clearance a tube extending from the filling valve to be inserted into the container. A flexible tube extends between the centering bell and a gas valve mounted on or within the filling valve to provide communication between the latter and the interior of the container through the bore of the centering bell. The gas valve is opened upon completion of a filling operation so that while the filling tube is being gradually removed out of the container after the same has been filled to capacity with the liquid delivered through the filling tube, an inert gas such as carbon dioxide or nitrogen gas is introduced through the bore of the centering bell into an empty space created within the container by the gradual removal of the filling tube.

摘要： Methods are provided for the production of dendritic cells from monocytes that have been incubated at a temperature of 1°C - 34°C for a period of approximately 6 to 96 hours from the time they are isolated from a subject. After the incubation period, the monocytes can then be induced to differentiate into dendritic cells. Mature dendritic cells made by the methods of the invention have increased levels of one or more of CD80, CD83, CD86, MHC class I molecules, or MHC class II molecules as compared to mature dendritic cells prepared from monocytes that have not been held at 1°C - 34°C for at least 6 hours from the time they were isolated from a subject. Dendritic cells made by the methods of the invention are useful for the preparation of vaccines and for the stimulation of T cells.

摘要： The present invention relates to antibodies that bind tumor endothelial marker 1 (TEM1) and effectively inhibit angiogenesis, tumor growth, or both. Pharmaceutical compositions and uses thereof for the treatment of angiogenesis-associated diseases including cancer, polycystic kidney disease, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degenerations, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis are also disclosed. Also disclosed are methods of identifying such antibodies by assessing (1) the inhibitory activity of candidate antibodies in proliferation and tube formation assays using endothelial cells, endothelial precursor cells and pericytes, and (2) the antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxic, phagocytosis, and complement-dependent cytotoxic activities of candidate antibodies.

摘要： The invention provides cloned transgenic ungulates (e.g., bovines) in which prion protein activity is reduced by one or more genetically engineered mutations. Desirably, these transgenic bovines are also genetically modified to express xenogenous (e.g., human) antibodies. Because of their resistance to prion-related diseases such as bovine spongiform encephalopy (also known as mad cow disease), these bovines are a safer source of human antibodies for pharmaceutical uses and safer source of agricultural products.
