    • Embodiments of the present invention relate to a printing apparatus and a controlling method of the printing apparatus, wherein a shielding unit can shield a print hole unit equipped with a print unit and a gate can shield a gap in which a reading head is arranged. Therefore, the apparatus and the method are able to prevent a printed material from being stuck in the print hole unit or the gap while the printed material is being transferred. In addition, the time when a print body of the print unit collides with a sidewall of a print unit frame can be set as the right position of a print head, thereby conveniently establishing the right position of the print head. Furthermore, a transfer unit can be formed in a structure wherein the size of a transferring passage can be appropriately changed according to a change in the thickness of the printed material.
